Dummy Cameras

Answered by:

Question:
Our security company technician told us to save money and place a dummy camera focused on our back bank parking lot? What do you think of this recommendation?
Answer:

I would love to know what security company you are working with that is making this recommendation. We find these companies normally haven't trained their staff on security practices, only on how to install equipment. So, if a technician made this statement, ask them what kind of security training they have had and if they respond that they install the equipment or take it out, this isn't bank security education. I have had technicians in the field provide terrible advice. One good example is dummy cameras. We have had these people recommend them. My suggestion is to consider the source of the information. If it's from someone who just installs equipment, their advice can be questionable. Several years ago major companies like Mosler and Diebold provided good education to their staff. Today, I question the background or education of the installer or sales person who makes these statements. Remember never use dummy cameras it provides a false sense of security. When this goes to court lawyers tell us just figure how many zero’s will go behind the dollar sign you will pay to the injured party.
