Unfortunately there is nothing new to report.

The doubts about my brother are due to an artery running through the section of the liver that our daughter’s hospital wants to use. However, our surgeon still thinks that he is a good match and that we’d just use a different section (the entire left lobe). This is commonly done.
So yesterday the bear had a CAT scan. The purpose of the CAT scan was to see if she is large enough to hold this larger section.

We were told that we will have a definite answer one way or the other by tomorrow. The waiting is killing me.

Well, last night we learned that Pat is NOT a match.

Our surgeon called us from his cell phone on his way home - we knew it couldn't be a good thing.

Where most people have 2 to 3 veins draining blood out of the left section of the liver, Pat has 5 to 6. Also his right drainage veins intersect and interweave with the left ones, so they would have to cut the right veins also. Both teams decided that this is too much of a risk to take.

LMP, you are still in my prayers. If God can move mountains, perhaps he can move a few veins too...

This is just a set back LMP, don't give up hope! The Lord has His methods and time table. My wishes to Pat, who I know is disappointed as well. God bless you all.

Oh, sorry. I will actually not be tested until Tuesday. I will be going through the "work-up" pretty much all day. Labs, interview with social worker, MRI, etc. Phew!

I was tested yesterday. The MRI wasn't too bad. And the South Beach diet is paying off - I've lost 18 pounds ! (Go, me!) Anyway, they said it could be up to 2 weeks before we know.

And on a happy note - we got someone to wear an ELMO costume at the benefit!

One more update...Where to begin? We may have news, I don't know yet.

Natalie may have a liver. Here is the story. Friends of my parents have an 8 month old grandbaby. The baby was sleeping with the parents and was suffocated Sunday night. At 1am this morning she was declared brain dead. The family of this baby is ADAMANT that Natalie get the liver. It's called directed donation and while it's done it is not very common. Their case worker called my parents at 1:30am to get our information (hospital, name, etc.).

I put a call into our hospital. At this point, all we can do is wait. We are a bundle of nerves.

It's always sad when a baby dies, but just like all dogs, all babies go to heaven... Particularly when they might just save another small child's life.

LMP--I'm so sorry for the other family and will keep both your family and the other family in my prayers. Hopefully some good will come of this and Natalie will be able to receive this baby's liver.

I wish that I had good news to report.
An hour ago, we finally heard from the hospital. They reviewed the liver around 5:30 this morning and unfortunately they said that there was too much damage to the liver to use it. The child had been without oxygen for too long.
