Would a lender who is a board member of the local Red Cross chapter provide us with any CRA credit? Our Red Cross provides many essential services such as emergency housing for individuals who have experienced crisis (such as a fire) and are not able to arrange or pay for their own emergency housing expenses. (Or am I trying to hard to justify something that doesn't qualify?)
Thanks in advance for your replies.

There are new guide lines for Community Development effective September 1st.

http://www.ffiec.gov/cra/pdf/isbank.pdf

A Satisfactory rating is based on the banks community development performance demonstrating adaquest responsiveness to community development needs through loans, qualified investments and "Services" as appropriate.

IMO its a sales job to an examiner that the RC participation is an appropriate service.

I'm pretty picky about showing that the majority of the CD activity has to go to LMI folks. While yur red cross may help some folks in need (as does mine) they also help anyone in cases of disaster. They do not adequately document the percentages of LMI individuals they serve, and so, I do not take CD credit for the activities or donations. I would agree with Don that it's not a good activity to submit.
