Answer by Rick Wemmers:
Step 1 is to get input on this subject from all who will eventually judge and approve. Get their preferences for colors, type face, slogans, art, etc. Put all this down on paper, get approval from all and then give it to the designer.
Step 2 is to gather logos from all your competitors, to make sure you will create something that is distinctive.
Step 3 is to prepare only two different designs to start with. Make them significantly different. Show to the group and get reactions. Don't go forward until this is done by all.
Step 4 is to prepare the final version and register it.
hope this helps....
Answer by James Gilmartin:The first step is determining why you want to change the logo. If it's the result of a merger the reason is obvious. If not, remember, that your logo most likely has brand value in your markets that's developed over time. Changing the logo without a very good reason may cost you brand equity and cause some confusion in your markets. If you're comfortable with the logic and rational for the change, follow Rick's advice.
