As a requirement to cashing an on us check, can a bank make a person give them their social security number along with an unexpired drivers license before cashing the check? If so, can the bank write the SSN on the back of the check under the customer’s endorsement?

Under our CIP Policy, a credit card may be accepted as a second form of ID. The new account reps have been making a photocopy of the credit card for the customer file, which is later scanned for retention. Is there a specific prohibition on obtaining a photocopy of an applicant's credit card and retaining the copy for CIP purposes? Could this be a privacy issue?

Would you consider the Veteran's Universal ID Card an acceptable form of ID for any financial institution to accept? I found this website: http://www.va.gov/healtheligibility/application/id_card.asp with a copy of what the card looks like.

When the institution is to file a SAR where an identity theft occurred, does the institution has to comply with the amount limitations for filling ($5,000 and $25,000)? Also, if there is fraud, such as credit card fraud, does the institution have to disclose on the SAR that the person is a victim of identity theft or can the institution report only the credit card fraud? Also, if the person that realized the suspicious activity is not identified, is the institution required to file the SAR.?
