Website Change Management

Answered by:

Question:
We currently keep both electronic copies and paper copies of every change made on our website. This is time-consuming to maintain. How critical is it to keep hard copies of our work, and what questions should we be asking ourselves to potentially reduce or eliminate unnecessary paper trails?
Answer:

I recommend electronic backup. Paper is neither necessary nor efficient. Although paper copies are acceptable, they may not be representative of what the screen looked like, they'll take up more space and require more work to find. Periodically test your processes to ensure your backups work and the archived pages are viewable as they were when they were "live."
