TCF National Bank, Wayzata, Minnesota, has contacted the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to report that counterfeit cashier's checks bearing the institution's name are in circulation.

The counterfeit items display the proper routing number of 022000868, which is the payable-through bank for TCF National Bank. The counterfeit items and authentic items are similar in appearance. However, the counterfeit items have a fraudulent toll-free telephone number, which directs the caller to an automated message system purporting to be for TCF National Bank. Authentic checks do not contain the toll-free telephone number. Additionally, the counterfeit items indicate that a counter-signature is required for items in amounts over $100,000.00; authentic instruments state a counter-signature threshold of only $5,000.00. Copies of a counterfeit item and an authentic cashier's check (VOID) are attached for your review.
