Chesapeake Bank of Maryland, Baltimore, Maryland, has contacted the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to report that counterfeit cashier's checks bearing the institution's name are in circulation.
The counterfeit items display the routing number 061008766, which is assigned to the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta. Chesapeake Bank of Maryland issues checks through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta. The counterfeit items are dissimilar to authentic cashier's checks. The counterfeit items display the words "CASHIER'S CHECK" near the top center. "East Baltimore Office" and a toll-free telephone number, which is not associated with the bank, are displayed immediately below. The printed dollar amount and date are displayed in a table format. The serial number contains eight digits.
Authentic checks display the bank's full name ("Chesapeake Bank of Maryland") along with its logo and main office mailing address in the top-left corner. Security statements are included in both the top and bottom borders.
Copies of a counterfeit item and an authentic check (VOID) are attached for your review. Be aware that the appearance of counterfeit items can be modified and that additional variations may be presented.
