The Central Trust Bank, Jefferson City, Missouri, has contacted the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to report that counterfeit cashier's checks bearing the institution's name are in circulation.

The counterfeit items display the routing number 086500634, which is assigned to The Central Trust Bank, but are markedly dissimilar to authentic cashier's checks. The counterfeit items have a security feature statement embedded within the top border and rounded corners. The items also display a toll-free telephone number, which is not associated with the bank, below the bank's name and address in the top-center portion.

Authentic checks have squared corners and a dogwood blossom watermark. The checks display a "VOID" background when copied.

Copies of a counterfeit item and an authentic check (VOID) are attached for your review. Be aware that the appearance of counterfeit items can be modified and that additional variations may be presented.
