Looking Ahead
Reports to a House Banking Committee on how financial institutions are communicating their readiness for Y2K revealed that some are setting their clocks and computers to January 1 and inviting customers to come in and "celebrate" with them.
Most are using signs in their lobbies, running newspaper ads, radio ads, participating in town meetings and sending out statement stuffers. One bank, in California, had a precision drill team perform to draw attention to their preparations. The performers were called the "Marching Moneybags".
