The ABCs of BSA

Editor's Note: Some people learn from hearing. A larger percentage, however, respond to visual aids that allow them to "see" what they're being told. Lois uses an approach that helps both visual and auditory learners, as described below.
To teach the "ABCs" of the Bank Secrecy Act, I used a picture of a tree on a poster. Then I discussed various BSA responsibilities, using a letter of the alphabet for each one in alphabetic order. As each was discussed, I put a leaf on the tree (green sticky-note) with a large Letter. For example, I started with "A" and I stuck the sticky note with a large A on the tree. Then I said A stood for All the things you are required to do for BSA and how important it is to the bank and you to fully understand these responsibilities. Then I went on to letter "B", posted the letter on the tree and discussed what B stood for.

She has 30 years in the banking industry, 20 as Compliance Officer for Colonial Bank (Birmingham, Alabama).
