Speech Technology Gaining in Acceptance

A recent survey conducted by Gartner Custom Research for SpeechWorks International, Inc. found that most of the respondents were satisfied with their experiences in using speech recognition technology to conduct business.

The study was based on interviews with 302 respondents who had recently used such technology. What it found was that:

  • Forty-nine percent of caller respondents were "extremely satisfied" with their experience while another 35 percent were just satisfied.
  • Forty-seven percent preferred speech technology over touchtone use and forty-nine percent preferred speech to Internet interface.
  • Thankfully for those of us on the road, 69 percent preferred speech over touchtone while driving a vehicle.
  • Forty-three percent preferred speech technology to waiting on hold for two minutes.
