Safety Via Smart Card Device
CardLogix, a smart card company, has introduced a new system that uses a smart card, a handheld reader and special software to offer a cost-effective way to protect card users in retail and at-home applications from card fraud and identity theft.
The ATMobility system works in a regular debit card environment, as well as in Automated Teller Machines and connected to home PCs. After a user inserts a smart card and enters a personal identification number, the system generates a one-time number set to be used online instead of passwords and account numbers. The result is that users are not exposed to the possibility of someone accessing their personal data via the Internet. A secret key in the card's chip also prevents card cloning or server spoofing.
