Tying Card Use to School Support
by Barbara Hurst, BOL GuruGuru Bios
Washington Mutual has created a unique program that allows its check card customers to give points to particular K-12 schools each time those customers use their cards. Customers must designate the school they want to help, and then the WaMoola for Schools program gives the designated schools a point worth about 5 cents each time a customer makes a purchase with the card. The funds are transferred to the schools at the end of the school year to be used however school officials deem appropriate. Washington Mutual says it expects the program will result in millions of dollars of contributions.
