OTS Shifts Emphasis

The Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) had 131 examiners in the U.S. who focus on compliance and 826 who check on safety and soundness issues. They are now moving some from S & S to Compliance. These examiners have been instructed to shift emphasis of exams away from safety and soundness. In coming examinations they will more fully concentrate on consumer laws such as HMDA and CRA and on policies, practices, and internal controls.
