Interesting article, I know that Pitt is expecting to lose money being in the BBVA Compass Bowl. And chances of many Pitt fans making the trip to Birmingham on Jan 8 are very slim, so I have no idea why they choose to go to these minor bowls.
As for OSU, they are in the Sugar Bowl and Pryor is the star, so it's preety hypocritical that the NCAA is suspending him for next season, and letting him play in the bowl games.

PHEW!!! Squeaked it out last night. Typical Tressel ball, get a big lead, then try and play field position and run the clock out.

Well, Alabama claims about 9 bogus national championships in their history, so i'm guessing they'll talk Bazooka gum company into naming them national champs. Additionally, CBS has proclaimed Alabama the best-positioned 3-loss team to have a chance to upset Auburn or Oregon's applecart.

I would have bet the farm that THE Ohio State would lose that game. They are terrible against the SEC, and they are terrible in bowl games. But it seems the 5 players who got suspended next year didn't provide a distraction, but rather a unifying factor for the team to use to play good ball (mostly).

When LSU falls to Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl and/or Auburn loses to Oregon in the BCS Title game, maybe the SEC mania will cease for awhile.

Shocked that a Big 10 team actually won a bowl game. That and the birds falling out of the sky and the dead fish, things may be getting hot up in hee-ya.

Interesting article, I know that Pitt is expecting to lose money being in the BBVA Compass Bowl. And chances of many Pitt fans making the trip to Birmingham on Jan 8 are very slim, so I have no idea why they choose to go to these minor bowls. Dan Wetzel wrote a book called "Death to the BCS" that breaks it down. The AD's and Coaches get bonuses for any bowl game, so they take whatever they're offered. And the conferences split up the money from the BCS games among all the teams--not just the ones that made it to the BCS. Basically, the big bowls subsidize the little bowls, everyone gets a bonus, and no one speaks up about the lost money.

I just think it's funny....when the subject is "how good conferences are", SEC fans point to the last, what, 5 natl. championships and say that is why the SEC can and should "get the benefit of the doubt" at all times. When Boise State or the like mentions that they've been putting great seasons together for 5 years or so now, and mention the bigtime teams they've beat, it's always the SEC leading the chorus of "that was last year, this is this year".

Shocked that a Big 10 team actually won a bowl game. Let's See, Iowa and Illinois and tOSU Won The two Meechicken teams failed to show up for their bowl games (big surprise) Northwestern, Penn State and Wisc loss their games, but at least put up a fight. And for good measure I will throw in that Nebraska loss. Not a good bowl record this year.

I think a prior year national championship carries a tad more weight than a prior year great season... I know you're not a big fan of the SEC, but time and again they are picked by sportswriters as the best conference and the toughest conference in college football...and with what we pay the players, we ought to be. Now, if we could just get rid of Vandy...

I actually enjoy watching the SEC and believe it or not, i agree that year in and year out, it's normally the best conference. I just don't think it's very becoming of the best conference to be so hypocritical.
As to your first comment, when it becomes a "given" that an SEC team with one loss is automatically the highest ranked one loss team in the country and that undefeated non AQs will automatically be ranked lower, i think it has been carried too far.

except that by strength of schedule the SEC has again been shown to be tougher than other conferences, even with outside of conference schedules. Lets face it, pretty much any SEC team would run through the other conferences undefeated...

Yeah, Florida, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Kentucky, and Georgia would have walked thru just about any conference unbeaten this year. The SEC East totally blew, stunk, were putrid this year and yet somehow all we still hear is how awesome the SEC is. And how has it been proven by Strength of Schedule? It sure isn't by non-conference, where the SEC plays nobody year in and year out. "Strength of schedule" and by association, the rankings themselves, are a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy. SEC teams get credit for beating SEC teams because they're SEC teams, whatever that means.
