Pedaling along a scenic highwa...
In my prime, I was 120 and could bench 180. At 120, I could very easily do 25 pull ups. If I remember correctly, we did them with our legs locked together.

Right now, at 215, I will struggle to complete 1.

I'll focus on the pushups for now. smile

So as I work on my plank challenge idea, I came up with an option for the push up challenge.

If you are daunted by the thought of [censored] 366 pushups by EOY2012, what about doing it by week?

For example, newbies like me could do 10 a day for the first week, then add 5 each week. Old pros like Happy, who will likely do another 365 just while reading this post, could start with 365 a day for the first week, then add 20 each week.

I'll be keeping track of weeks for my plank challenge, so I can post that in here too.

I'm sure there are a million different ways to do a challenge. So if you have any other suggestions, that would be great too. smile

For you, Squish, I thought you could eat 5 pushups a day for the first week, then add 5 every week after. Also, you could eat 5 bags of cheese curls - strengthen the abs, you know - each day the first week, and add 5 every week after.

For the biceps you need the 40oz beers. Do curls with those. smile

Sounds like a challenge I can get aboard on.

hanging from a pullup bar would be challenging. I am not sure what would give out first, your grip or your shoulders, but I am going to guess the grip.

When I took rock climbing in school, we'd hang from the pull-up bar each day by our fingertips for as long as we could. It was supposed to help our grip when we climbed. smile

Yeah...I was at the gym after work and I tried my hand at doing pull ups. I can rock the chin ups, no sweat, so how hard could pull ups be.... OMG...I did seven...MY ARMPITS FELL OFF!!!

Freak, I am not sure there is anything different between a pullup and a chinup. Some people even call them the same thing. If you changed your grip, the fact that you only did 7 could have had more to do with you already doing a set before hand and not resting enough. If you change your grip, arm position and the way you pull yourself, it can change the intensity on different muscele groups, but is still essentially the same excercise. But I would say 7 is pretty good for a motion and or grip you had not doen before.

I have heard it explained that if your palms are facing you, it's a pull up, away from you and it's a chin-up. I have no clue if that's true.
