Describe "burpees" for this old guy. Start from a standing position. 1. Squat 2. Put your hands on the floor 3. Shoot your feet back (you're now in the top position of a push-up) 4. Do a push up. (you knew that was coming, right?) 5. At the top of the movement, jump your feet back under you. (bottom of a squat position). 6. Stand up. Or.... a squat thrust with a push-up (sort of) I thought #6 was supposed to be JUMP straight up and land back in your squat to start over?

[quote=Bankbb1] I have marathon training tomorrow morning and the tempature at 7am is supposed to be 18*. Any tips on what I should wear to run in? How far are you going? Is it supposed to be sunny or cloudy? What about wind? The sun and wind make all the difference in clothing choices for me. 18*, sunny, and no wind...I would wear a fleece headband, insulated mittens (they do better than gloves), long sleeve tech shirt, my Nike running jacket, winter running tights, shorts over the top and the heaviest pair of tech running socks I have. You will be cold when you start but SHOULD be ok after the first mile. If not, circle back and add another layer (I always carry extra running clothes in the truck). I typically dont do shorts over my tights, but when it's that cold I need the extra layer of fabric (two if you count the liner of the shorts) over my hips and booty. They have to stay warm or I suffer.

Thanks for all the advice. I have never ran in the freezing cold before. I was a basketball player so this time of year I was usually in a warm gym. This is my first marathon.
We will be running 5-7 miles. Just checked the weather channel and it supposed to be 15* now and feel like 5*. Thanks for all the advice on running attire!

Yikes! I feel your pain. That kind of weather would put me in underarmor thermals from neck to ankles, long-sleeve tshirt, sweatpants, and a pull-over fleece with a headband and under armor gloves. I tend to be one of those people that is out in the cold and looking like a train running down the track...a pillar of steam rolling off my head! Just have to be warm enough for the first mile or so, then I'll be fine aside from ears, hands and lungs.

I managed sets of 13, 16 and 12 this morning. 16 was my max as of last Saturday, so I'm happy to see it show up on my 2nd set this morning, especially since I'm beginning to feel a cold coming on.
I'm thinking that I should only max monthly rather than weekly. It took a toll on me this week, and my shoulders (yes, I also have bad rotator cuffs) have been aching. I'd hate to wreck 'em trying to overdo it.
We are to close the pool hall at the end of January, so I see some additional free time opening up, and I'd like to start doing some cardio. I am not ready for running as my knees need to be built up a bit for that, I think, but I am hoping to get the bike off the wall and on the pavement now and then.
For core, I do have a "yoga" ball, so I think I'll start using that soon.

Oh yeah, it's all black too, except for shoes and part of the gloves. And no, I don't run on streets or cross streets (generally). I am somewhat reflective in the shoes and gloves at least!
I get sad about wearing my shoes in bad conditions, I don't like them getting wet and soggy! But, since I'm about to buy new ones, they'll become my clean ones and the old ones will then be okay to get dirty.

I am still on track for the push ups. I had to do 16 yesterday to make up for some that I missed. I am already starting to feel a difference. I hope I can say that when I hit day 30 Skipped the gym today. It was just to nasty out. Kind of a cop out being that a warm gym awaits as you are all talking about running in the cold. But I guess skipping one day a week isn't that bad is it??? I WILL be in Zumba class tomorrow and then a treadmill and free wieghts on Sunday whilst watching the Packers kick some Giants booooootay!

But, since I'm about to buy new ones, they'll become my clean ones and the old ones will then be okay to get dirty. My jacket and tights are black but both have reflective material in key places. I keep my most recently retired running shoes for bad conditions. That way I'm not running the next day in soggy shoes.

I'm going to get reflective tape and design some sort of funny pattern or big reflective eyes or something like that. I think it would be funny for a car to light me up and see nothing but a reflective hand with a middle finger sticking up...

If I'm running in the dark I also have my headlamp on. I may look like a dork but I like being able to see and being seen by oncoming vehicles.

It was hilarious! Partly just because, but also because there was a small group of guys that just couldn't seem to pass her! LOL

Hey, I'm not ashamed of the fact that I have done well in some races by following (more like chasing) someone worth following...the fact that I'm getting my butt kicked by a woman does not bother me at all!

LOL I think I ran a marathon with those guys! There was a bottle neck of guys that could not get past this woman running in very tight compression shorts that she filled out quite nicely. My competitive nature would not allow me to stay with them, I passed them and her.

I have a friend that does zumba classes, and uses the Wii game at home some other times, she seems to still be able to enjoy it and get a work out from it. I've not been allowed to watch, but I'm sure it'd be fun!

That is what I like about the classes, they switch up the routines every once in awhile. I also know that they have routines on YouTube that you can work out too, so if you do get bored with your Wii you can throw in some of those.
