I will see what I can do. My wife was not able to get a real good one of me after the mud pit, but a vendor (Bear Naked Granola) was there and took a before and after shot. The before has been posted for me but they have not posted the after yet. I am hoping shortly to be able to provide proof to the masses. cool

Lots of water today NP! Is it possible they might try to change the time to earlier in the day?

Definitely plenty of water and don't push yourself too hard. At the Warrior Dash we watched at least three ambulances take people away with either heat exhaustion or heat stroke this past Saturday. Be careful and good luck NP!

I'd go above water and work a Powerade in this afternoon and before the race tomorrow. Run smart!

Eat a raw potato with salt on every bite.

When I was a kid, I used to eat at least a full raw potato by fishing chunks out of the water on the stove before it boiled. After my first organized ride ever, a 30 miler during which I cramped up pretty badly, I was told that I should increase my salt intake a day or two prior and I should eat a potato, raw, unpeeled if I could stand it. I am told that potatoes work even better than bananas in preventing muscle cramps. Add the salt (not as good on a banana as it is on a potato), and that's even better.

I ate mine unpeeled and sprinkled salt on every bite before my 50 miler, and I only felt minimal cramping after about 45 miles.

Half of a potato has as much potassium as a banana, I'd guess that's to blame.

PP, that's a risk when you've got heat and mud, for sure! Hard for the skin to sweat when it's caked over, so makes overheating even more risky than it already is.

NP, good luck to you, it's gonna be a hot one!

Jen is right, use the gatorade. A 5K should not be long enough to dehydrate you during the race, but prehydrating today, tonight and EARLY tomorrow, is prudent.
Have a recovery drink after.
Dont load up right before or you will have "Slosh belly".
Also, nobody knows the size of your bladder like you do. Nobody wants to have a voiding issue mid race. Just sayin' smile

So, we're heading up to Iowa Friday night (Come for a visit, Matt...free pizza and beer...iowa chops and cheesy hashbrowns on Sunday..and a good deal on a tattoo by my brother). It's roughly 11 hours (hopefully a bit shorter), and we're driving straight through.

I just found out (need to plan ahead) that there is an annual ride in my hometown that starts at 8am Saturday. We should arrive around 5 or 6.

I'm totally unpacking and heading downtown to ride a "quick" 25 miler. My goal of 100 miles over my 4 days there WILL be met. smile

Next year, I'll plan for this and head up a day or two early so I can ride the 60. cool

I figured you'd use the hunt and peck method of typing. I wouldn't think that if you're doing one-arm pushups, it would be any slower than usual!

Okay, a question for my fellow runners. The past few Saturdays I've been stuck working, which means an earlier run that doesn't last as long as I'd normally do. (6.5-7 instead of 10-11)

Despite the shorter run, I'm dealing with what feels like a blood sugar crash afterwards. Light-headed, queasy, shaky etc. Once I get some OJ or other sugary liquid in me, I clear up pretty quick at least, but it seems weird that I'm dealing with this when I usually do 10 and feel fine afterwards.

Relevant details: Indoors so heat isn't a factor, hydration has been relatively stable and well managed, preworkout routine is the same for supplements etc, proportional amount of water is consumed during the run.

Any ideas?? I'm probably going to try some gatoraid or something next week, I'm assuming that will help though hopefully not mess me up too bad. I've not had great exeriences with having anything much for food or drink in my system during runs, so I'm always wary.

Could it be because you are running earlier than before? Body is still in 'fast' mode from sleepy time?
