Some of my parts will be around for LONG time. Man made stuff doesn't rot very fast. Fake bewbs? They can leak, you know. they should fill these with Gatorade, just sayin' I don't think they'd leak where your thinking they'd leak.

Question for my weight training BOLers - Does it make a difference if you do a circuit with multiple (2-3) sets or if you do I set and just push yourself until you can't do anymore?
When I met with a personal trainer, he gave me 3 mini circuits to do and told me to do a set for each activity and then repeat for a total of 2-3 reps before moving to the next mini circuit. I've been doing that. However, last night I was bored with the routine so I did one set of each activity and just pushed myself until I couldn't do the task anymore. I was more tired last night and the muscles were burning when I left the gym. I normally don't get that with the circuits and multiple reps. The answer to your question, is yes it can make a difference. Single, long sets are designed to give you more of a ripped/cut. Shorter multiple sets are designed to increase strength and will add more muscle. You didnt mention how much weight you were using for each. But you should not be using the same amount of weight. If you can do a single set of 12-20 reps with say 45 pounds. Then you should be doing the shorter sets of 8-10 with more weight, like about 60 pounds. Both are useful, but do not do the same things.

Had a personal trainer session last night with a different trainer. All I can say is she seemed to be enjoying herself WAY too much torturing me and that after a couple sets of reps, milk gallon jugs full of water feel really really heavy. I also learned how to do 2 kinds of crunches I never did before and "wall sits" which were challenging for me. Yay. As for the many reps in one set vs. many sets with fewer reps question... both my trainers I've had so far say that for me (female, trying to lose fat and gain lean muscle mass and improve strength) fewer reps done in many sets with cardio in between each set (walk as fast as I can around the 1/8th mile track with trainer yelling "faster! faster!" every 3rd step in between each weight set) is the best way to see results fastest. But that's for my goals. As Bankbb1 wisely notes, it depends upon what you're trying to accomplish to determine which form of weight training is good for you. Good luck, NotPerfect!

BB - I did the same amount of weights that I do with multiple reps. I didn't think to lower it. And after last night, I'm wondering if I should up my weights when I do reps anyhow.
Burnt - I really don't have any specific goals. I want to get in shape and by that, I mean, I want to tone and gain strength. Sure, I'd be happy with losing 10 pounds, but that's not my ultimate goal. I'm fine with my overall weight. . . . but gatorade filled bewbs. . . .wonder if that would help my overall appearance???

Not touching the comment on bewbs other than to say they're like air. Even a lttle is better than none! If you can do a set of 20 with the weight, its too light. Unless you are doing a workout like "Hundreds" that is designed for one high rep set. If you are doing 3 or 4 sets, pick a weight that is in the vicinity of 75-80% of your maximum capabilty. You should be reaching failure at no more than 10 reps. (failure meaning that if your choice was do one more rep or eat a bug, the bug would sound good). This is tradtional strength training. But there are cross training methods such BS described. If you are with a trainer, I dont want to guide you away from a program they may have designed for you. But if you are going to alter from that program, the general rule is - shorter sets mean more weight. - Longer sets mean less weight. - shorter sets mean more cut. - longer sets mean more strength. This is not taking into account your cardio, diet, or any other training you might be doing. Clear as mud now isnt it?

I'd rather eat bugs than workout. That's probably a bad thing, or maybe what got me in trouble in the first place!

Work out I guess...but the margin might be fairly small on some days!
I've been fighting a sore throat/cough for about a week now and sleeping has sucked, so getting up in the morning has been especially trying. But then I remember that motivation makes me do stuff, so I get up and do it.
I'm thinking about a warrior challenge 5k thing on March 31st...not sure I'm going to be in much shape to be happy with my outcome though. It wouldn't kill me I'm sure, but it also requires a team of 4, and I don't know that many people.
Relay of flipping a big tire down 25 yards and back, then carrying a cinder block down and back, then a 5k with a backpack holding 15lbs of weights. It could be 10 degrees or 60 degrees that day, knowing how our "winter" has been though.

BB1 may still be 100% manmade parts, but May 1st, Kneepolean Blownaparte is finding his inner bling. I can still chicken out, but... In the meantime - pushups continue and it's on to 2 months of heavy duty quad/hammie building. They moved all but one of the Zumba classes to 9:00 a.m. which is irritating beyond measure (I think 3 of them will be calendared as "PT") and the rest sounds like it should be shorter, multiple sets on the weight machines. and add that to the elliptical and bike. How much muscle can I build in 60 days? I'm a true ectomorph, so building muscle is hard.

That sounds fun, Matt. I wish I were in shape to join you and closer, of course. They happen all over, I'm sure you could find one if you tried! Get BBB on your team, it'd barely be a warm-up for him I'm sure.

Round is a shape! And I was meaning he could pull the extra weight for you and/or just shove you into his backpack!

One is provided. We'll rip open holes for your arms and legs and make it work! I can almost picture it, but I don't think even my imagination can make it as amusing as it would be in reality.

Yum!
I need to go on a supplement run this weekend, low on protein, and both of my pre-workout mixes...that's going to be a big bill. I want to go to GNC or somewhere and find something cheaper but comparable, but have a feeling I'll not have much luck.
The guy at the place I go to always wants to sell me on 6-8 other things, so I have to run in and grab everything I need quick then drop it on the counter and run out!

Get BBB on your team, it'd barely be a warm-up for him I'm sure. Its hardly a warm up, its murder!! But it's also a lot of fun! Go to Wal Mart and buy a cheap wieghted vest. They hold 20 pounds. (more expensive ones can hold up to 40, but you dont need it) I dont really recommend wearing it during running much because its really tough on the feet and knees (well, mine at least). But you can wear it just during your normal workout and for extra sets of pushups. It will help with the warrior chalenge. Also wear it and go up and down stairs or do speed work. You will hate me at first, but you will be glad later. I'm Scheduled for 2 warrior runs in April, one in September. One of my nuttier friends wants me to do 2 legs if a 24 hour SEAL team challenge in august.....yeah, I dont know about that.

How much muscle can I build in 60 days? I'm a true ectomorph, so building muscle is hard. In terms of sheer mass..not much. But in terms of strength...you bet!! You are well motivated and your legs are used to taking a lot stress from all the dancing! Tooltime isnt going to like anything with a lot of sheering force, so I'm going to say a lot of leg presses at medium weight and a lot of kettlebell swings (with very strict form). When I say a lot, I mean to try for one set of 70 with about 15 pounds. Strict form, bend your knees at the bottom and use your legs and shoulders to bring the weight up. Let gravity bring the weight down, but maintain control. Dont just let it fall or it will jerk at the bottom (bad). Lots of good examples on youtube. No kettlebell? No problem, use a 15 pound dumbbell or 15 pouind plate.
