I am keeping up with the challenge. I do have to do half on my knees the girly way but I am a girl so I guess that works right? I also got up at 5:00 am and did water aerobics at the gym. I am in it to thin it baby yeah!

Is it OK to join late? I'll go home and do 9 today, and one more for each day missed...promise! I told my wife about this, and she is onboard already, and we haven't even gotten home yet!

Also starting Couch to 5K...anyone ever done that?

I know a couple of people on here that have done C25K. I started it but hate running so I didn't finish it. BUT my 2012 goal is to work on cardio and run a 5k this year.

You can join in the fun anytime you want.

I have several co-workers that have done it, some multiple times. They've seen decent success, just don't be like some of them and run the 5k, then not do another thing until the program starts up again the next year haha.

It's a great thing and will ease you into it while still making you work for it, I say try it out!

Welcome to the party!

And there's also a FB site, but I don't remember the name of the group right off the top of my head. You can ask an administrator on the site to join (for a small fee ;))

Never too late!

I did the couch to 5K program, and loved it! I NEVER ran before, so the slow start was ideal. I had to wean myself off of it when I became too reliant on the timer, though, (I'm slow!)and build up to 5K on my own. (I was too happy to stop at 25 or 30 minutes, instead of pushing even the extra few minutes it took to get to 5K...)

There are plenty of free versions for smartphones that are great for starting out, and plenty of good running programs for after. Runkeeper wasn't bad, DroidRunner was buggy, and AllsportsGPS kept shutting off my phone, but I'm really happy right now with Runstar.

I'm in. Still need to do my 9 today. I was a 10 year couch potato that did a 5k in November. I started training in August, so you can do it. My time was 35 minutes, my goal this year is to bring it down. I'd love to get sub 30, but I'll settle for less than 32. Work your way into it. Do some research, their are some good (free) training sites out there. Alternate walking with running, and increase the amount of running you do, and you'll get there before you know it. Good Luck!!

You have so much muscle that it's choking up your ear canals!

I'm overall pretty impressed by how everyone's doing, and that's coming from someone who is on the younger end of the scale and been going at it 6 days a week for over a year. Great to see people so motivated, and the accountability will help everyone involved to keep it up! (assuming people are honest of course!)

Had a nice run this morning (new shoes haven't arrived yet mad ) and did all my planking. I'm going to do arms and the pushups tonight after walking the dogs. I am sticking to just the required amount per day because I am so friggin weak still. But each day I complete them makes me happy smile

Has anyone progressed to side planks yet? they are part of my Iron Strength Program and work a slightly different set of core muscles. The program has you do left, middle, and right side planks. Just make sure you work both sides or you will walk with a noticeable lean and people will be offering you V-8 juice.

Here's a fun side plank variation:

Assume you are starting from a side-plank on your left side.
Typically, your weight is on your left elbow and left foot. Put the weight on to your right foot instead and draw your left knee in toward your chest.

I havent tried bringing it into my chest, but I have tried lifting it up to the ceiling. Kind of insane inner thigh raises.
