My husband told me I ran funny, but since it was coming from him, I usually ignored it.
The first shoe store that I went to looked at my running style and gave me a pretty good shoe. Now that I've stuck with running for over a year (new PR for me, I've been noticing aches and pains and my doctor mentioned a minimalist shoe. That's why I went out shopping for a new shoe. Will try this for a bit and see how it works for me. Should probably also consider getting my gait looked at - my health care provider offers this service.
I'm just looking to avoid injuries as much as I can without resorting to becoming a couch potato. I have minimalist shoes and even 5 fingers (which I love), but If I am really going to run, I go back to my Asics Kayano's or 2170's everytime! Which makes them right for my feet, not yours.

My daughter's track coaches say she runs flat footed. They teach them to run on their toes for sprinting which she is struggling with. I have encouraged her to run distance, but she has resisted. She has the endurance for it, but not the ambition. As a flat-footed person, I can identify with that. Even tip-toing feels like falling forward to me.

As a flat-footed person, I can identify with that. Even tip-toing feels like falling forward to me. Are you sure you're not just missing the part of your inner-ear that allows the rest of us to balance? I'm beginning to think you're only safe when sitting down, preferrably with chair arms on either side, and maybe a bar that comes down in front of you like on an amusement park ride!

The sad part is... you're probably right. I generally am, it's only when I'm at work that nobody seems to understand this fact.

Brooks Adreneline running shoes, started on version 4 and am now on version 12, so 8 years of them, love these shoes. If not these, next choice would be Mizuno Wave Riders. But I need a stability based shoe as I'm an over-pronator.
Cleats - Adidas all the way, turf and studs...
Cranked off 150 push ups last night, 3 sets of 50...way ahead of schedule.
Tried to do a 1-arm push up and forgot to spread my feet...i looked like a drunk tripod...and fell right over

LMBO! With you, not at you! Been there, done that! I also have friends that are big fans of both the Brooks and Mizuno's. I've just been happy with the Ascis, so I havent tried them.

I love Brooks and that's all I've worn since I got back into running a couple years ago. Ghosts are my preference and work best for me, not to mention they make me feel extra stealthy.
Still not to the one-armed, I can go down, but it's the getting back up part that sucks!

Well I try not to "fall" down and keep it somewhat controlled! Don't want to risk rug burns on my face, that would be an odd thing to have to explain to people!

At the gym last night, I was walking on the treadmill while listening to these young punk high school kids over in the weights/bench area going on and on and ON to each other about how you NEVER see a girl come over and lift weights or do situps on the benches, never! So... I felt the need to prove them wrong. I finished up my time on the 'mill and headed on over to do 60 crunches on the bench, 30 slow perfect form pushups on the floor, and 3 sets of 20 reps each of my biceps curls, hammer curls, triceps extensions, overhead presses, and shoulder shrugs. Then I did some kettlebell swings for good measure. Ha! Silly boys.

Tried out my new shoes last night and they felt pretty darn good. Was able to keep the *correct* form for awhile, but hubby said you could tell when I was getting tired - I went back to heel striking. But practice makes perfect - will run again tomorrow morning.

So yesterday I did the Insanity fitness test, out of curiosity. I haven't touched the program in probably a year and was just curious how I'd do. Well, I didn't lose any ground, but I didn't really improve much either!
8 exercises, each done for a minute and you record the number you could do in that time. It's a fairly intense program, if you really commit to it, and when I did it for a couple of months there was a performance improvement, though not really any sort of dramatic change to my person.
Anywho, my ankle is all goofy today and I'm pretty sure it was from that. I got through my run this morning fine, so that was good, but walking on it kind of sucks. I'm glad I don't have volleyball tonight though, that probably wouldn't have been good for me!
