Had a workout this morning that I might label the "Want to be like B^3". After I got done, I was pretty sure I'd have to turn sideways to fit through the door! Arms, shoulders, back, chest.

If only the visual results backed that up whistle

For some reason I'm picturing them getting tossed over the wall, then going so far that they land at the finish line....... laugh

Mani doesn't need help! She can leap tall walls in a single bound, no prob.

I can see Pup throwing people into the walls instead of over!

I'd just trip people until they piled up high enough for me to climb up their bodies and over the wall.

smile I'm so nice.

If you take out all your competition, you win the race by default! Strategize yo!

I took today off. It's just too easy to push the next run and kettle bells to Saturday when I'll have more time.

Well done sir!

So, besides B^3 and myself, any other exciting races this weekend, or other feats of epic strength planned?

Just a little 5k myself, but the first one since...October.

30:46 was my first time last year, in May (first race since '03), improved for my second one in October and hit 23:27. I have a feeling I won't drop 7 minutes off my time for this race, but I am hoping to improve on that time! 21ish would be nice.

Supposed to only be about 45 at race time tomorrow, going to have to put some thought into what I'll wear!

45 is great running weather, depending on whether it is wet or not, of course.

At your overall fitness level, Matt, I think you'll be seeing sub 20s in the near future. I'll give you some goals to chase as I know I'll never see these times again...I'm just too old:

1 mile 4:57
5k 17:16
10k 39:30

I think you can beat each of my PRs (from 20 plus years ago) if you put your mind to it. I think the 5k is within your reach already. The 10k should be as well, as you have been putting in the time running longer distances anyway.

My goal is to get on my bike and start logging the road miles to be ready for the 30 miler at the end of May. Time is running out!!

Running and riding everywhere ...
I've got a 6 and 8 mile run on the schedule and would like to work in a 10+ mile bike ride. Not much really. Next weekend is my second 50K relay race...cannot wait!

I have completely fallen off the push up wagon and MUST find a way to get back on it.

Matt...45 and racing I'm good in a t-shirt and shorts...but must have someone at the start and finish line with my warm clothes. That's also dependent on the sunshine and wind.

21ish would be awesome! MY PR so far is 24:18...just ran a 26 a few weeks ago. Not bad considering my time off with the foot. I'd REALLY like a 23ish this fall, but marathon training doesnt help much with 5K speed. The training is so very different.

Have you done any speed work on the track? I'd say a couple months with one day a week on the track and you'd be amazed with the increase in your speed.

Good point, Jen. It's AMAZING what speed work does for your distance running!! Also, plyometrics does wonders.

Been a long time since I was hitting my best times, but not quite 20 years wink

1 mile was probably 5:45ish, don't remember for sure since I was never really fast enough to race it competitively, I was usually stuck in the 800's and the 3200's in track. (hated the 800's, it was a half mile sprint basically, and 8 laps around a track sucks in general)
5k I got down into the low 16's, but I'm not really trying to push myself to that level of performance either.
Never done more than 5k as a race!

Jen - I'm not really training for 5k's at all, the race I'm training is a total of 12 miles, so I'm endurance training really, not much "speed" training really. I do some interval training a couple days a week though. Once that race is done and gone, I haven't decided if I'm going to stick with 5-8k's or try for a half, that will alter my "training" significantly.

Really I've just been running for overall fitness and calorie burn, I have a lot more self-motivation when it comes to running vs. weights, so I find my T/Th/S running days to be much easier to get excited for!

My 5K times are off right now. I've been doing a ton of interval training. 800 yards...pushups....800 yards.....crunches.....800 yards....dips.....800 yards......pull ups....hurl.....800 yards....burpees.....hurl some more.....800 yards.....KB swings...
That sort of thing. smile

Obstacle racing is about transition of stremgth. Its been good for shrinking the waistline though! grin
