I'm not guessing my success at the obstacles next month will be quite as successful as yours, but at the very least, I'm hoping to finish and have a darn good time doing it! I have the impression the race itself isn't really timed, they do say on their site that if you're interested in a time, you might want to bring your own watch. I personally don't care that much about the time, but hope I finish in the top 50%.

Very hard to count on times in most of these. There are usually too many bottlenecks at the obstacles unless yo are at the front of the wave every time.
A few races have adequate lanes to prevent bottelnecks, but not many.

Try hard and have fun! You'll have a great time!
and BTW, your 5K times are beating mine right now!

And really, since every one is different, there's not much merit to the time itself. We have 3 hours, so if I finish and there are still people at the finish line as I run through the field of exposed wires trying to electrocute me, I'll know I did good enough!

Also, considering our height differences (not to mention the decades of age difference!), I need to get on losing more weight, yikes! smile 5'8"ish and 178lbs. On the bright side, that's 15 or so less than I was at the last race, so that should make me move a bit faster!

A mere shadow of me!

Most recent measurements -
Neck - 17.5
Chest - 46.5
waist - 32.5

I think I'll bottom about 200 lbs and hopefully a 32" waist.
Trying not to get any shorter either... grin

Used to be 36-34-36?? Teeheehee

I'm down to a 32, which I wore in high school. I don't think my waist is going to get any smaller unless my hip bones shrink. The area just above the waist could still stand to lose a bit.

::happy dance::

Thanks everyone, it's grossly overdue!! I've been running for way too long on my treadmill. Got to get out and hit the streets! Also happy the hubs agreed to do it. It took a little bribery, but I'm happy he'll be there with me. smile

Just wait until you beat him, that'll really motivate him! smirk If you can find out the route of the race (and it doesn't involve running down the middle of busy streets!) try to run it a few times smile. Outdoor is a lot different than treadmill, but I'm sure you'll do great! You'll likely move faster, and knowing your pace already, I'd bet you'll be pretty happy with your results.

Good idea Matt! The description says it's flat and just around the subdivision behind the school that is hosting the event. I do plan on running outside a couple of times beforehand to get my legs adjusted a bit.

Pedaling along a scenic highwa...
Congrats, Mani!!

Matt, my goal at state my Sr. year was to break the 17 min mark and just fell short. Coach said my pace was too slow at the beginning....probably so. 17:16 at a golf course in Ames (ISU, I think) on a chilly day was only good enough for 49th place. Winner got into the 13s....RIDICULOUS!!

Back to Mani...get after it and enjoy. Your treadmill runs are already excellent. It won't take too long for you to realize that you have been missing out by staying indoors.

When my knees stop screaming at me, I think I'll start looking for a 5k to run.

Do I have bad ideas?? wink

That's good, maybe you can't run the street, but sidewalk maybe just to get a feel for things. Then you won't have any surprises at least!

One I ran last year didn't have miles marked and I didn't bother to look at the course map. I basically turned the corner and there was the finish line two blocks away! I wasn't happy with myself there, I would have stepped it up a bit earlier on if I'd had a feel for where I was!

Way to go Mani! I am jealous, my husband won't run with me. He says I talk to much.

I have a 22 miler this weekend. After the marathon I really want to work on getting my 5k time back down. The last 5k I ran in November it was 29 minutes. I am wanting to get it down to 24 minutes. I did mile intervals this past week and was running 7:45 miles but that was with 2 minute rest between miles. My real goal is to beat my sister at a 5k. I have only done it once while I was in college and she wasn't working out as much.

So, I have an appointment soon for my usual plasma selling. I neglected to think about it's impact on my performance tomorrow. It involves no blood-loss, though obviously burns energy to make more plasma to replace what's lost.

Since it's only a 5k, I don't think it'll be consequential enough to cancel the appt. Any thoughts from the pros?

I'm no expert and I've never sold plasma. But I dont think I would the day before a race.
