I would like to present something to our board of directors on CRA and HMDA, other than what I normally present...the dollar amount of HMDA loans, the percentage of male approved verses female approved loans, etc.... For example, I'd like to present to the board the percentage of HMDA loans that our bank has verses the number of HMDA loans that another bank has. I'd also like to present perhaps the HMDA or CRA loans in comparison to the number of housing units or .....something.....But I don't know how to do it. Heck, I don't even know if that is possible or what purpose that would serve.

I'd like to show a comparison between our competitors. I know that when comparing some issues in banking, you may look at your peer group. I also know that you may look at the banks in your community. What is the norm?

You may take what you normally provide and compare that to peers or an area aggregate report. HMDA reports available from the FFIEC may assist you. Some vendor products allow you to select report content and to do a peer analysis.

Just a word of caution. I have done this and turned some "spare time" into a great report that took a lot of resources. And while I got my use from it and it was a great experience (I know, I have no life) when the CEO likes it from a compliance and marketing/lending perspective, he may be tempted to say, "I'd like this quarterly". Let them know how often it is doable and what it takes. Then try to get the most use of it you can. Three areas were mentioned already. Consider CRA and fair lending as you do this. Get the most bank for your buck.

I can whip these reports out using the Wiz products, but if you don't have the product at your desk (sounds like you don't) and you want this information gathered in an easier format try talking to someone like Don Narup. He can probably do the leg work for you for a fee and produce accurate reports using his fancy dancy consulting computer system

As Andy mentioned, FFIEC does have much of this information but not in the easiest manner to access and it won't produce a report that discusses housing in your area (HUD for that one). To gather it all in one simple to read report you either need the software or a good consultant
