This concept is a real key to success! Not planning meals is big reason for epic fail on eating. Monday - Taco Bell Tuesday - Burger King Wednesday - Pizza Hut Thursday - McDonald's Friday - KFC Saturday - Subway Sunday - hot ham and rolls from the supermarket There may be somthing to this When I was underweight this is all I ate. Now that I eat so called better food I weigh a lot more Hmmmmmmm.

Substitute Whataburger for McDonalds and Weinerschnitzel for KFC and I am good with that schedule...

Ok, I'll take a shot at this.... Taco Bell - Chicken Gordita Supreme 270 calories Burger King - Honey Mustard Chicken Wrap 390 calories Pizza Hut - 1 slice of Veggie Lovers Pizza 180 calories McDonalds - 1 hamburger or 1 chicken wrap 250 calories KFC - Grilled cchicken breast and green beans 306 calories Saturday and Sunday - eat up! Ok, more of the calories are from fat than I would like, but the point is that with a little planning, it can be done.

I did a full 5k training run for the first time ever yesterday evening and realized I need to work on my pacing.
I finished the first mile in 8:06 and then slowed WAYYYY down.
Ended up with a total time of 31:12.
I've still got right at a month to go before the event so I hope to figure myself out by then.

Thats great John!! You'll get the pacing, it just takes some time and getting a feel for it. Some of the phone apps will help with that. Or you can just go old school with a watch if you are running at a track. Garmins are the bomb for this, but a little pricey. BS, glad I could help.

Thanks you guys!!
It's crazy to me that I am actually enjoying running now. I have always said in the past that if I was running it would be from something...
I've got the Nike Sportwatch GPS so if I pay attention it will probably help a ton. I just wanted to run that first one as best I could to see where I was at and go from there.

Pace is primarily a mental game...especially the longer you go. I have many friends who continually go out too fast in the first mile and crash and burn in the last. I might suggest on one run a week play a "game" with yourself...do your first mile at 9:30, second mile at 9:15 and last mile at 9. (or whatever variation) Negative split runs are a fun, but different type of speed work.

Also...doing a "mile time trial" is a good way to help determine an appropriate race and training pace, especially if you dont have a race as a bench mark. For those of you as addicted to miles, paces, and data as I am... http://www.mcmillanrunning.com/calculator/

Have to agree. I do one run per week that is one measured mile, as all out as I can go. It is part of a speed workout that I do (ok "speed" is relative here) but it also gives me a frame of reference for percieved effort during longer runs. It also helps with getting target times for various runs that I do.
