Jen, I find myself doing negative splits on my 5k's on accident. I always start out slower since I don't really hit my stride and get my breathing to a steady pace until about 1.5 in. I went out this morning and did my first speed/interval run in probably 9 years, it was "fun" I guess, something different at least. I had an 8:00 meeting so less time than usual and it seemed like it would work well. Hit a .7 mile loop and did 4 half miles with .2 walk between them. The interval workout on my phone app worked well for it and gave me all my times and distances etc., very helpful. My .5's were between 3:03 and 3:26, so not quite the 2:20's I used to be able to do, but hey, it's been a while! Felt good though.

Yeah, you kind of hear the Olympics theme in the ebackground when you finish and can't keep from walking like a stud..... or getting dizzy. I forget which. You know it! I blasted past the old ladies out walking their poodles (praying I was going far enough around them that a sudden trajector change of the pooch wouldn't put them in front of my feet) and felt like I was breaking the sound barrier! Of course the good looking women always show up during the walking portion of the interval and you look like some sort of weirdo sweating and panting...oh well . Tomorrow is a cross-training day, then a 5k race Saturday, followed by a few more miles on my own afterward I guess. Hopefully this weekend I can do some searching and pin-point a race in October or so as the half I'm aiming for.

So, my goal on vacation was 100 miles on the bike. I made it up there with about 2 hours to spare before an organized ride. I opted to ride 25 miles, and that went very well. The next morning, Sunday, I did the route with a little added on that ended up to be 30 miles, and my pace was over 15 mph, which is very good for me. Then, VACATION happened and I failed to get up to ride on Monday morning. I played basketball for a couple hours with my little brother and his friend and stayed up late again Monday night, so I skipped Tuesday as well. Drove home Tuesday evening and arrived Wednesday morning. I managed a ride of about 14.5 miles last night to cap my vacation total at 69.5 miles. The ride last night was a pretty good one, racing daylight to arrive at home just before dark. One pesky Boxer, male about 1 yr old, tried to bite me, but I convinced him that I could beat him up, so all he managed was to run into my leg with his mouth open. Silly puppy. I ate all the food that I miss from Iowa, except for Hy-Vee pork tenderloin sandwiches. I had Jerry's Pizza on two occasions, Tastee's Inn and Out taverns and onion chips with dip, Bob's Drive Inn taverns, Taco John's and a massive feast of 1 1/2 inch thick Iowa Pork Chops with cheesy hashbrowns and corn on the cob. I gained about 4-5 pouns on my trip. It has been deemed a success.

You have to do light weight to accomplish them and somebody always walks in just as you are finishing...groaning and struggling with 20 lb dumbbells. Then they give you that look of "He looks stronger than that." We are going a color run this weekend. More for fun than anything.

Pup, I recognize about half of the food you mentioned, but sounds like the pounds may have been worth it anyway. Just behave and get them back off now

(I do remember Chris Taylor) All things considered, I'd say you did remarkably well!

Nope, obesity rates all through the midewest are pretty much the same based on the last studies I looked at (25-30%). We eat like farmers, we work hard like farmers

Yeah, Chris Taylor was a farmer too... A little before your time. He was a 425 lb heavyweight wrestler from Iowa. Your not even allowed to wrestle anymore if you're that heavy, but he was a bear!

Bless any of you who can do those Insanity/P90X programs... I absolutely despise workout videos. I have two in my weekly routine now. Tuesday is Insane Abs. I've done the P90x ab video before too, but this one is much better I think. It's also 40 minutes long while the other was a mere 15. Two days later, my hip flexors are still feeling that video! Friday is Core Cardio and Balance, some good plyo, core and shoulder/back exercises while being relatively gentle on the legs. Why do you despise them so much? You need to become friends with Shaun T! They're actually pretty decent.

Just can't get into them. Honestly, I'd rather watch it once and write the routine down, then do it on my own. That's how most of my kettlebell routines have formed.
