Yeah, well. . . they did a make-shift changing area for us after the race. The race was held at a local county fair grounds where the fair was just held the week prior. We got one of the animal barns for said make-shift changing area. Pretty sure the hoses we used to rinse off the mud were used on the cows previously.

We had showerheads set up on hoses to use, but part of the last obstacle (when we were hurdling things) was getting blasted by a fire hose while the firefighters laughed at us. We were surprisingly "clean" at the end!

Ran my first 5K Saturday. Despite all the advice, I started out too fast. I felt hemmed in by the pack, and pushed forward to have some room, and then just kept the pace too long. I looked at my watch at one mile, and it said just a couple seconds over 8 minutes, way too fast for me. I hit a wall at two miles but kept slogging on and finished in 28:04.
I wasn't even close to winning in my age group (50-59). There was a running club there, and they had three old guys run it in 23, 24 and 25 something. To get one of those shiny medals, I need to be either 3 minutes faster, or 4 years older. Congratulations, MyBrainHurts! You finished and in fabulous time - so proud of you.

I can totally sympathize, my knees are in similar shape today! We were in some ditches that were basically runoff from some fields, it didn't take more than a whiff or two to know that it wasn't just mud we were crawling through Now you guys know why I run some of these in fatigues. Yeah, they get heavy, but no road rash.

Add that much weight to me and I'd not make it over some of the round hay bales at the very start probably! Saw a few in those, they weren't moving very fast though . I was pretty impressed by one particular kid, he's 7 and finished in the top 250 I think. I've seen him at a lot of 5k's around town, his mom cheers him on, but he can pull in a 27-28 minute time already! This kid literally disappeared into some of the holes dug into the mud, but it didn't slow him down much.

This reminds me of something. I used to have a PE teacher named Max Kitzleman (SP?). He played football in the NFL and for Nebraska. I remember in school a few of the kids could not do pushups very well and he said.... "hasn't anyone ever taught you ladies how to do a pushup?" Then he preceded to show us all how to do a proper pushup.
I thought it was pretty funny.

We need more Ketleman's!! Matt, that is amazing for a little kid, but I think its great! My dad started me when i was a kid and it stuck. I admit though, one of most humbling moments was a numner of years ago. I was running in the Red Bud (a 10K) and was running very close to a PR for a 10K and feeling, overall, pretty cocky about myself when about a 1/4 mile from the finish I started hearing this strange "clop, clop clop" sound coming up from behind me. I turned to look and here comes this 5' tall, 95 lb, 12 year old kid in a pair of size 13 Converse Allstars. His shoes are wrong, his stride is wrong, his head is bobbling all over the place....... Passed my azz like I was sitting still!

Suggest a shoulder warm up routine.... A little windmill rotation (360 degrees) with and easy swing. Wall pushups, stretching. Then hit the floor. Might help

I've been a slug this summer. Did my push-ups in June, most of the time in July, sometimes in August...
I need to get back on track. My running hit a slump in June or July, too, so I've been trying so hard to get back in that groove I've just been neglecting everything else. I'm going to get back on keeping up with this thread, too - maybe it will keep me motivated!

It will wait for us forever to come back to it! You haven't really missed so much! Just jump back in and it will feel very familiar!

BBB, my left leg is sore, upper calf, immediately below the knee. What's up with that? Is there a way PB or a protein shake (if applied liberally) will serve to correct this issue before tomorrow's scheduled intervals?

Dont I wish! I bought a compression sleeve for mine and it helped a lot, along with ice and ibuprofen. If no sleeve is available, a well wrapped 2 in ace bandage from the drugtore works about as well....along with ice and ibuprofen.

Also try to keep your stride true and even. Even if you have to slow down. Favoring the leg can cause an issue with the other leg, hip or even shin splints from the body trying to guard the injury. If you cant run without favoring, dont run.
Probably better alow time for more warm up and tretching too.

my left leg is sore, upper calf, immediately below the knee. Just for variety, I thought I'd hit the elliptical instead of running. Just the little change in routine had my calves howling. I could feel it everytime I walked down stairs. They were sore for a couple days, although running loosened them up for a while. But they felt fine today, so I tried the elliptical again this morning. So far, so good.
