Health, physical education, and recreation with a minor in math. Actually taught school for 7 years but quit when my second child was born. When she was in fifth grade I got into banking as my second career.

Opera!

What, you may ask, is a former opera singer doing as a Compliance Officer? The woman who hired me as a teller at my first bank, wanted to make sure I was going to stay long enough to justify my training, and I was there for 25 years at my first bank, and now I'm 10 years at my credit union.

I decided that not knowing where my next paycheck was coming from as an opera singer was not as good as getting a regular paycheck every 2 weeks.

I bet you've got some lungs to go after your people that are doing silly things!

That might be one of the top contenders for the "How in the heck did you end up here?" awards.

My original major was physics. I switched to accounting because I doubted I could get a job at NASA. I have a masters in economics and am perusing my Ph.D.

I have applied at some pretty good schools and I am keeping my fingers crossed. More often than not Ph.D. programs do not look for people with a lot of experience. They like people who are young so that the professors can help mold the student. Thus my experience, no matter how great it appears on paper, can work against me in the application process.

However, I know that if I get an interview then I will likely do well. I think a 22 year old is going to struggle during the interviewing process.

BS in Home Economics Education

Biology... Not quite sure how I ended up on the other side of the career spectrum in banking compliance.

Actually, I have used my opera training here. At some all-day training sessions when I have done the annual BSA training, I did sing some parts of the training, which everyone got a kick out of (when did anyone get a kick out of BSA training??) Then when I sent out a quiz based on the training, it was very interesting that for all the questions based on the sections I had sung, everyone got them correct--not one wrong answer!!

Even now I'm sometimes asked if I'm gong to sing my training again: I probably should!

I studied stuff, but realized I'd never understand James Joyce and that I had no patience for William Faulkner or that Will.i.shakingspear guy, so I switched to Louis L'Amour and the Sacketts.

That was Iron Maiden ... close, though. They both put on a great show.

BA in English. At the time I thought it was vitally important to understand just exactly what those 18th century poets were trying to tell us! And, lets not forget being able to recall all those characters in a Charles Dickens novel... testing,Testing!
MBA in Business (Finance) when I learned that not too many people did care about the opinions of those poets.

Still hope to write a great short story, along the lines of "The Lottery".

Completed my BS in Corporate Management/Corporate Finance last year at 22. Looking to get my MBA in the next year or so, but taking a small break from the university world. Not in a major rush, however.

Worked full time during university... so I'm a bit drained from that, haha.

I feel like I use my psych degree nearly every day now.

In this field, psych should be a requirement.

1. Physics: Did pretty well, but hiring freeze at DOE in 81 got me looking at AF pilot jobs (20yr career). Thank you Jane Fonda (China Syndrome) for killing a career in Nuclear power research. Media coverage of TMI didn't help either.
2. Girls: Crashed and burned as Mav would say.
3. Fishing: Eventually guided in AK.
Also MS Aviation Management. Very similar to banking management except instead of dying if you fail, you just pay a fine.

I'm currently going for Biometric Security. I'll be done April 2014

I a have a BME - before any crude comments pop up - that is a Batchelor of Music Education. When I did my student teaching I quickly figured out that I did not want to do THAT for a living. I was tired of going to school, so applied at the bank where I was a customer. The BME, though, makes it real easy to make money by playing in three symphony orchestras and various church jobs and any other plying job I can find.
