You forgot: "I'll remember to wrap that knee/ankle/elbow next time."
and of course "Next time I'll remember to take 4 Advil 30 minutes before I start ((insert strenuous activity here))."

The only thing I tell myself: Next time, run faster. I did some squats yesterday with a military press built in, my quads are on fire today and it hurts so good! Only 55 lbs or so with weight, but it was definitely effective. The few hills in my run this morning...yikes.

The only thing I tell myself: Next time, run faster. There is actually a lot to that simple statement. I have had races where I got second (in my div) and I had a ton of kick at the end of the race. Obvious deduction... I dint run fast enough. I hate that feeling of having left something on the plate.

Today was 5 miles that averaged out to an 8:38 pace that wasn't really pushing it hard. Compare that to my 7:55ish pace in the race on Saturday when my legs were fresh and it was a bit warmer...I should've been faster. That being said, my original comment was more aimed at constant improvement than disappointment. Only a couple of times in the last two years have I really been upset with my results, I try not to take it too seriously.

Has the Pushup Challenge for 2013 been forgotten, tabled, left behind?

Has the Pushup Challenge for 2013 been forgotten, tabled, left behind? I couldnt forget it. Some of our employees thought it was such a great idea that we started one here.

Its that 7:55ish thing of yours that I'm trying to get back. That's a very slow marathon time...I think you can do way better than that! Thats a sub 3:30 marathon. I would call that more than respectable.

::Throws up hands in defeat::
7 hours, 55 minutes was the marathon pace I was suggesting for you!

LOL! Thank you for your vote of confidence! Me and my trusty walker shall attempt to live up to your expectations! I'm only signed up for the half, but hopefully I will be able to post a decent time.

Its that 7:55ish thing of yours that I'm trying to get back. if you are truly trying to increase your speed, decrase your time, please tell me you are doing track work in distances of less than 600 meters...and also days of interval training (fartleks - but always hated that word).

Yes, I do my speed work too. I hate fartleks with a passion, but its a necessary evil. I was including hill sprints, but I messed up my knee (lots of knee history) so my sports med Dr. Told me no more hill sprints. Keepin it on the track now. I also do occaisional short runs in my 5fingers. I cant take long loping strides in them and it increases my foot speed. Andif I thought the Dr Sheldon Cooper Flash sui would help, I'd get one fo those too. (but thanks for the reminder anyway, its easy to "accidentaly forget them)

Speed work will start up again for me soon, probably within the next two weeks. Makes a big difference!

Our bank has six people running a 5K and three people doing a 1 mile fun walk tomorrow for a cancer fundraiser. We don't have any great runners, but we have a lot of spirit. Our one good runner dropped out, with a lame excuse that she doesn't have enough time tomorrow to do the 5K and the 20 mile training run she needs to do to prepare for a marathon.

I finished second in my age group in our 5k Saturday. I won a pair of http://yurbuds.com/. Chip time was 27:05. The first place guy finished 4 minutes before me, but third place (and the rest) were five or more minutes behind. From the 1.6 mile point to the end it was uphill into the wind. I had a good first two miles, but the third was no fun. I had nothing left for a sprint to the finish. I need to work on my endurance to make the last 1.1 miles easier. There was a 74 year old guy that ran in 25:34. Awesome!

Awesome! Way to go. Not great conditions, but you still did well with it. Were you happy with the time? Obviously the kick at the end being lacking stinks, but the elements are always a tricky variable. And it never works out that you're going downhill with the wind behind you, I don't know how, but it just always seems to go the other way!

The time was fine for me for the first run of the year, but I would have liked to break 27, and if I had looked at my watch and seen how close I was, I might have found an extra kick.

BBB! It's that time of year, we laced up the football cleats and ran a practice yesterday. First game is next weekend, championship day is the day after the big Chicago race...not sure I'll be worth anything then though. Sprinting in football cleats...ick. But hey, we could use some bulk on the line if you're free on Sunday afternoons
