We did this here and I'm not entirely displeased so far. 6 started. 4 are still doing pushups, 1 has started the C25K in addition to the pushups and 1 has gone full tilt runner, cycling and stair climber. He's lost about 40lbs this year!

Yesterday I got to experience a race from the other side of things, working the packet-pickup table at a sprint tri and it was pretty fun! Weather was awesome, I wish I'd had more time and could've done another shift somewhere on the course.

My boss is one of the organizers, and of course a participant. Apparently the bike course was extra hilly, and the whole run was on the same course that gets used for the college cross-country races that're done there, so it wasn't quite what most of the regular racers are used to. She was the second woman overall, finishing in 1:18.22, about a minute behind the top woman, who was 34 (18 years younger). Was really neat to see all the different types of people come out for it. But no, I have no interest in trying something like this. wink

Careful Matt! I foolishly uttered a similar phrase once.....
Two bicycles, three helmets, two suits, 4 pairs of shorts and who knows how many pairs of shoes later.....
Well, you get the idea. smile

But do what I do. Blame Jen. laugh

I don't think there's much risk. I really don't like swimming, and I haven't touched or owned a bike in 10+ years. Plus, opportunities around here to compete in stuff like that are pretty limited, and I can't afford to buy the gear or travel with it! Maybe if I switch to a bank job wink

On the other hand, last night I was reading about a short racing series close to home that's happening in Sept. and Oct. Literally, short races. Mile, 2k, 3k distances. I'm not available to do them all, but would like to give a mile race a chance! If I can do a 7:00 first mile during a 5k, I can probably put together a pretty quick single mile. I'm curious to see how I'd do, to say the least. And participation is pretty durn cheap!

I like the idea! But I like the opprtuninty to explore different disciplines. It keeps fitness fresh and fun. I also think that training for different disciplines helps to keep repetitive use injuries down.
I will never be as good as I could at a single sport or discipline, but I stay interested in staying fit and dont get bored. smile
Or as I sometimes say, "I am at the high end of mediocrity" laugh

I've been on an even 200 for a while now. Soon, I will have to bump it up.

I thought this was one of those bra color challenges. I was impressed that there were 151 pages of comments.

I stand four square in favor of non-moobiness! I think we should take all prudent actions that would prevent an outbreak of moobs!
But neither do I believe that we should discriminate against those that are moob impaired or even those that choose and embrace their moobiness (poor b@satrds). Moobs could well become the next big issue in the political arena or in civil rights!

Or you can just do the pushups...whatever. laugh

So you are guaranteeing I won't get moobs if I do the pushups?

I know there are races from this weekend to talk about, I suppose it could be left in the weight watchers thread, but this one looked lonely!

No race for me, but I did mile repeats Saturday to see how I'd hold up. A hard mile followed by a quarter mile jog. Did four of em, since I had to be at work by 8:30, but that was plenty for me. 7:18, 7:28, 7:11, and 7:26. I'm feeling relatively confident that my race on Sunday will go well. Should be right around 50 (better than when I did it last year and it was low 30s!), so my goal time of as close to 21:00 as I can get isn't looking too out of reach. Biggest obstacle will be the 15,000 other people, but most of those will be walkers and behind me anyway.

I always do. I can be near first for about 30 seconds of the race, best placement I can ever hope for!

No race for me this weekend. I'm just focusing on my first half 4 weeks from now. So, yesterday, I ran 13.1 just to see if I could, without collapsing into a bag of bones. As it turns out, I can. The only thing that hurts today is a minor ache in my Achilles, and that's from the treadmill Friday. Now I just need to speed up.

You know, you'd have gone way faster if you didn't stop to change to a different pair of shoes every half mile! I understand though, you need to actually run in each pair at some point.
