We now have 12 little goldfish in the newly cleaned horse's stock tank. The fish help keep the tank clean. I love to watch the fish grow.

I hope the cats don't go fishing. They like to sit on the edge of the tank to get a drink since the tank has a float.

Do they control the mosquitos too?

I never thought of that CO, but I bet they can catch those that come to rest on the top of the water. Cool!

Yep. I keep goldfish in ours, too. Of the last batch of 5/$1 fishies that went into the tank, there is 1 left. It's now probably almost 3 years old and longer than my hand.

I haven't replaced mine (his name was Shark and he was HUGE and then I added a homeless smaller one) since a crane ate them. frown

ETA: and i used to scoop skeeter larvae up from out of the overflow and they would gobble them up. smile

It always hate it when we've lost the larger ones for any reason. We haven't put in fish in the tank for quite a while, so now I'm excited to have a new batch o' pets. I seriously love to watch them grow and I like that we have fishies in different colors like some white-ish and some more gold and some gold with white. I didn't see any with black in this batch. Those are the prettiest, in my opinion. Must be why I wanted some of the Koi. They had prettier colorings.

How big are the tanks? Don't they produce a lot of waste....poor horses!

I lose some to birds and raccoons fishing, but most of them are stomping victims. My retired gelding and Haflinger mare like to climb into the tank and splash around whenever they are hot or bored. I put a board across the top to keep them from getting all the way in, but they still manage to get one or both front legs in there sometimes. Dorks.

Mine is 150-ish gallons - I don't remember exactly. I figure it's still cleaner than the puddles and ponds they will drink out of if given the choice. Very rarely will a critter pick a sparkly clean bucket over a nice mossy, fishy natural source.

Of course the horses produce a lot of waste but not in their own water tanks.

We had to put one of those huge brick-things in our tank because when hot my Jack Russell would run and take a flying leap into the tank and not be able to get out. She learned to swim to the brick so she could stand on it and get out of the tank. 10 lb dork!

What unholy demon created cookie butter, and why didn't I know I'd eaten nearly the entire bottle in one sitting?

Try the cookie butter filled dark chocolate cups (like Reeses but smaller and more evil.)

Also the cookie butter cheesecake.

I didn't love the cookie butter ice cream though. Too crumby.

Pure EVIL! It's like peanut butter only made with crushed up cookies. I did, however, find that eating it with a spoon cut down on calories. Well, in my mind it did.
