Today has been complaint day and one of my favorite customer's passed away. I thought it was Wednesday not Monday.

I hate when I forward an email to someone to handle and someone else already sent it - and didn't cc me.

Why in the world can't I buy a truck with <100,000 miles for under $30,000?

I swear, the price of vehicles is so dumb these days. Granted, I have some wants and needs (leather, 4x4, cool shoes), but still...

Oh I am right there with you! I need to get something a little bigger than my Ford Edge to haul around the kids and their junk. Vehicles are in the $50K range and UP! That's insanity!!! I could buy a decent house around here for that much. I'm waiting until after the first of the year so I have time to ease myself into the price.

Keep looking Norm. Hubby found a nice F-150 4x4 with about 40,000 miles for $22K. It's got leather and even has a backup camera and the step to get in the bed easier. If you're not desperate, take your time and you'll find something.

Oh, I'm in no hurry. I'm in that "just looking" phase where I progressively spend more and more time browsing until I have two car payments. The wife got a new car two years ago and the rule has always been one payment at a time. Not sure I'll last.

Two things of note:
1.) These things are too danm expensive
2.) I'm getting pretty bored with the look of these trucks. Some of them are just downright ugly.

I think the inflation is due to the fact that these yahoos are out here financing $50k trucks for 7 years. That's crazy to me.

just pay the inflated price and do your part to jump start this economy!

Agree totally Norm. How can anyone finance a vehicle for 7 years? I'm still trying to swallow financing for 6 years but that's what I'll have to do if I get something that's $50K.

I hate the look of the new Ford trucks. That aluminum body just looks light.

If it is zero interest, who cares how long they wanna give you free money for.

I love free money car loans except when the charge to much for the vehicle in the first place.

I guess I'd argue that you'd be more willing to pay $50k for a truck if the payments were stretched over 7 years as opposed to 5 years. If five years was maximum term available, number of people paying $50k for trucks would likely drop.

Long story short, I think some of our less savvy Mericans are looking at the monthly payment, not the overall price.

Note: I'm certainly not advocating any new regulations. I'm a fan of letting people thrash in the water until they figure it out for themselves.

So true Norm. Most people look at the monthly payment ONLY and if you can stretch it to 7 years, $50K starts to look more reasonable to folks.
Jay's also correct. Rates have been so low for so long, there's not a lot of disincentive to shorten the term.

Exactly... I keep a car for 7-9 years. If it's free money, and I am good with the price, what is the incentive to pay it off in five?

I've been bad about not keeping cars more than 4 years. If I pay more for one, I'll have to keep it much longer. However if we go with something bigger, it won't feel so small as the kids get bigger and they require more stuff hauled around.

I keep cars longer. I am 55 years old and am driving my sixth car. Bought my first at 19. Even passed two down to my son so technically owned them for over 10 years each.

Just waiting on a court date and my divorce will be finalized!!

trying to find a pickup under 40k is killing me. I drive them until a little over 100k, hubby drives them until the wheels fall off.

I recently picked up a '13 f150 with 30k miles for under $26,000. I had to look a long time for it but it is a great truck. Living in rural WI may have some benefits.
