Okie, I enjoyed In the Woods, and also read a couple of the sequels. Much like the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo I enjoy the complexity of her characters.

The Plantagenets by Dan Jones - it's definitely an intense retelling of the ebb and flow of a major empire in world history, and Jones has a way of writing about past figures and events that, despite knowing how history played out, leaves you turning pages as quickly as you can. Either that or I'm just a nerd for British history and the way that authors like Jones write narrative history.

Would like to know if any of you have read Edward Rutherfurd's books? I picked one up recently and won't get to it for awhile, but I don't know anyone who has read them.
Just finished The Lilac Girls last night, just in time for book club meeting on Saturday. A lot of research went into that story, and it is interesting that there are actual people from history who are main characters in the book, in addition to the fictional ones.

Fans of Faith Hunter's Jane Yellowrock series - have you read the Soulwood series? 2 books out now, a 3rd coming in December. I am really liking them. They're a bit darker than Jane's books but the story is really good.

Finishing up Tulip Fever by Deborah Moggach for book club.
We also read No Excuses by Gloria Feldt for our executive book club at work. That was a lot of pages to make a few points, in my opinion.

I just read Deception Point by Dan Brown. It's one of his earlier books, and I didn't think it was as good as his more recent stuff. A little like a Tom Clancy wannabe. But it's a decent light read and the plot kept me up late at night reading. I zipped through it in 3 evenings.

An older book "The Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett. The version that I read included a preface from the author that describes how the book became his most popular book via word of mouth after everyone was dubious about him publishing a book in a new genre.

I just bought the 3rd in that Pillars of the Earth series " A Column of Fire" but haven't started it yet. May have to re-read the 1st two....

I just finished (non-fiction) Killers of the Flower Moon; The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI. It chronicles a series of murders of members of the Osage Indian tribe in Oklahoma in the early 1900's . They were, at the time, the richest people per capita in the world as they retained the mineral rights on some particularly oil rich land. My husband is Osage so it was especially interesting. If you like history, it's a good one. This sounds like one for me! Thanks, CO.

On vacation I read Fly Away by Kristin Hannah, which is a sequel to Firefly Lane, which I loved. And in general I very much like her work, but this book felt off. Especially after reading Winter Garden and The Nightingale. This book almost felt like she skectched out a plot and someone else wrote the book. Very disappointing.

the various Jack McClure novels, in order, by Eric van Lustbader...good stuff so far, on book 3...I'm sure it has a title...

Holy cow...reading The Circle by Dave Eggers for book club. Only about 1/3 way through, but it is a mind trip.

Those books are amazing. My personal favorite is the 4th, Wizard and Glass. Such an amazing read and really explains much of Roland's manner.

I finished reading The Handmaid's Tale a few days ago. I can't believe I'm saying this, but the Hulu series is better. I'm kinda wishing I hadn't coughed up $2.99 for the Kindle version.
