Hello,

Is there any requirement or benefit to putting images of checks on periodic statements? I've seen some do that, and some do not. If not, is there another way that check images should be made available to the customer?

Would this impact any kind of timeframe for fraud claim? For example, a contract indicates that a customer is to notify the bank within 60 days of a statement showing an altered check. If you don't send check images, I guess that could go on longer, although UCC has I believe a 1 year statute of limitations.

Any thoughts on this?

For those customers inclined to review their statements, it would certainly make it easier to identify altered checks rather than waiting for an intended payee to let them know they never got paid some times months later.

And for the record, the UCC isn't "U" in all aspects. And section 404-6, where the requirement for timely customer account review and reporting of unauthorized or altered items is found, is one of those aspects where we might say the UCC should be called the "MUCC," where the "M" is for "mostly." I do think that most states use a one-year limit for customer notice, but there are states that have shorter notice periods. I'm looking at Florida and Georgia as examples.

And if you think MUCC sounds like "muck," I admit to thinking that section 4-406 is one of the muckier provisions of the UCC.
