Rotavirus - a blessing in disguise?

Long story short - we may be going home tomorrow or Wednesday - to our own home!!!!!

During the doctor's rounds it was stated to us that there is no longer a medical need for Natalie to be staying here. They would like to discharge us to Kohl's house due to the driving distance between Byron and Chicago, but Natalie has to be Rotavirus-free for 3 weeks in order to not spread the virus to other kids at Kohl's house.

So it looks like home is a better option.

I've been praying for all of you during this test of faith. I haven't posted to this thread, but I am praying.

I just went to your website and viewed the photographs. It makes your situation so much more real. Many more prayers will be said for you and your family.

Prayers from California continuing to pour your way. May God continue to work miracles in your lives. I just read the Prayer of Jabez and Beyond Jabez....if you have time it might be encouraging to you as well.

Bless you all. I can't even imagine what all you have been through with your sweet girl. Every time I think of you all, I say a prayer. I stared at the pictures, trying to imagine how I would feel if that was my little girl, and I am amazed at your faith, strength and courage. What a roller coaster...it's like a bad theme now.

We're still here for a little while. This morning we were told that we could go home, so Jason started packing up all our stuff.

Then a few hours later, we found out that her meds (which we'll need to go home) did not arrive today like they were supposed to and that the doctors changed their minds - they'd like her to stay for a little while longer. Their reason for this is that she's still pooping (due to the Rotavirus) WAY too much. They are afraid that she's going to get too dehydrated if they send us home - even though she's no longer on IV fluid and she's drinking fine. Sigh...we're starting to get frustrated. Up to now I've maintained a pretty positive attitude. But she's been through so much already and now this *&$# (insert explitive) virus.

Gosh, Becca, it seems like you guys have been through the wringer. We're still lifting you all up and praying that this roller coaster ride ends soon. Like someone said (I think it was elena), we can't wait to see the pictures of Natalie running around!

Surely this is just a temporary delay. As anxious as you are to finally take your SweetPea home, take a deep breath a relax for a moment. The talented hands of the entire medical team that have attended to your medical needs must have a concern for Natalie's health.

You've trusted the medical team up to this point - don't lose faith in them now. Also know that you have whole bunch of BOLers out here that have expressed their faith and will continue to keep you in their prayers.

I can't imagine your disappointment. I am so sorry you can't go home yet but am relieved they are going to monitor her a little while longer. I was really surprised when they were going to send you home because when my twins had rotavirus they were in the hospital for two days and they had no other medical issues. I am glad they are going to monitor her because they can get so dehydrated even when they are drinking and on top of everything else she is already enduring, it's probably good in the long run. There's a light at the end of the tunnel - and guess what? We're all there - clapping and cheering and waiting for you!!

I know how frustrating it is to think you're going home, pack up, and then be told you need to stay. Be strong and know that you will be going home soon. I admire the strength that you've exhibited for your daughter and your family! You continue to remain in my daily prayers!

Better the doctors keep her under their watchful eyes a bit longer than shoo you out the door too soon.

Give yourselves a break and order a nice dinner brought in from one of the million restaurants down there. A little bit of good food may help shore you up again. Bet Nattie would love french fries about now too.

Know that we're still here praying for the ride to level off soon.

Ditto @ bjp's comment on better to be safe than sorry with the doctors being careful and watching. It is better to have a few more days there, than a bigger setback if you go home too soon. Before you know it she will be running amuck! Continued thoughts and prayers going your way!!

Sometimes, timing is everything.

It is a blessing that we are still here. This morning labs were drawn and it appears that Natalie is again having a rejection episode. (At least that is how they are treating it.) It is minor, and without the labs we would not be able to tell by looking at her. In fact she's "talking" the nurses heads off today!

They have decided based on this latest news to change Natalie from Cyclosporin (Neoral) to Prograf. Both are "anti-rejection" meds. But Prograf is MUCH stronger and without the "hairgrowth" sideaffect that Neoral has.

God has his ways of taking car of us. He may not answer your prayers in the way that you request, but he does it as he sees as best. Thank goodness you were still there. Proof again that she is being watched over by the angels. Hang in there!
