I have some news - everything is going well so far.
Both surgeries went quite well. Becca is recovering fine at Northwestern. She is on a pump for pain management and is quite, understandably, sore, but in great spirits. There was talk about releasing her tonight, but she's hoping its tomorrow so she gets a bit more time for rest and recovery.
The surgeons were not able to close up Natalie's incision completely so tomorrow she will be taken back to surgery for that. It is not uncommon for kids who've just received liver transplants to need to be left "open" a bit to give time for the body to adjust to the size of the new liver and to let the swelling go down. They are keeping Natalie in a "paralyzed" state so that she doesn't move until she's completely closed up. She is on a respirator, but doing quite a bit of the breathing on her own.

Thanks Princess for keeping us informed. Continued prayers from Idaho. I hope they decide to keep Becca one more night so she can get some extra strength and sleep (if that is possible in the hospital).

I just saw this in one of the guestbook posts on Natalie's website:
Becca was out of surgery yesterday at 2:30 The had the liver at 11:20 a.m. and started on Natalie at Noon. Becca is doing well and they will start her on a regimented walking program today, Feb. 10th. She will be out of the hospital on Friday. He called again last night at 6:30P and said Natalie got out of her surgery at 5:30P almost 5 hours earlier than expected.

Yes, continue prayers! They are not out of the woods yet. There's still alot of healing going on. I pray for strength and as little pain as necessary.
