Becca, you are all a part of my "family" and I am numb too. I will continue praying and I just added you guys to a world-wide prayer list that I belong to. Damn....I don't know what else to say except don't lose faith. I'm so sorry that you are all having to go through this.

So yesterday, we went to Children's for a scheduled CAT scan. Its purpose was to look at Natalie's lymph nodes, following her PTLD diagnosis last summer - to make sure that they have not grown. Jason and I made the trip together, hoping to get some answers.

Natalie did awesome yesterday. As we neared our turn, our nurse came in to place the IV (necessary for giving the sedation meds and for the contrast for the CAT scan). Natalie looked at her and said, "No VI." Poor kid knew exactly what was coming. Our nurse got the IV placed on the first try and Natalie, through tears, said, "Thank you." But it took 2 doses of versed and one of ketamine to calm her down, once she saw the CAT scan machine. She knew what was coming and was not happy about it. She talked to the machine, instead of sleeping, in that little sing-song voice of hers. Thankfully, our Dr. for the day came to us in recovery, instead of making us go up to clinic.

Here is what they had to say.
All conversations with Dr. Superina (the transplant surgeon) have been via Blackberry (yeah, I'm so need one) from South Carolina. So no face to face conversations have been had with him, yet. However, our "team" is in agreement with him that surgery to correct the bile duct connection is most likely not going to work. And why put her through something like that if it won't be beneficial? And a new transplant is probably the best solution. There it is though..."probably." They would like to do another squirt of the tube and then most likely they will pull it. That makes me so very nervous. After we came home we got a call from our nurse. The CT scan of the nodes looked good and they were able to see some of the bile dusts in the liver too. However, those bile ducts still looked enlarged and "sick." Even with the tube being in place.

Not sure what that means or what the future holds. Like I said, no answers, only more questions. I'm praying that the answers come soon.

It just breaks my heart when I think of all the Bear is going through. She is so lucky to have you as her parent. Hang in there and keep thinking positive thoughts.
