I'm not sure where you are located, butercup, but I totally agree. In my town you also have the problem that there is a college and a large retirement community here. Basically all the guys leave at 24 and come back with their families at 50. It's slim pickins for those of us in the 25-35 age range.

It doesn't get any better when you are 50 either. All of the men in this age range want the women that are 35 to 40. And what, pray tell, would a 35 year old woman want with a 50ish year old man!?!?!? Good grief, when he is 70, she will be 55......

Yeah...22 and male and working in a new town while being by far the YOUNGEST at the bank doesn't set up too many dates either.

I have one word for the date seekers.....laundromat.
I've met more good dates at the laundromat than anywhere else.

You think that's bad, try being 42 and married with kids ... oh wait - that's a different thread. Don't feel bad, Nancy. I was 35 or 36 and separated - spent 1 year depressed, spent 1 year having casual "dates", and then let myself get swooped up all over again, had the 2nd wedding in my lifetime, 2nd bachelor party, 2nd honeymoon, got a great daughter with it, and just added two more rugrats to the equation. I figure I'll maybe try it all over again in a few years !

Maybe your daughter and Skunk Boy should date! On a more serious note, I assume by the tone of your post, Nancy, that you are farily confident this is not a temporary separation?

It will eventually be ok - embrace those things you always put last on your priority list (and maybe haven;t done in years) because they were "me" things and enjoy doing them - whether it was reading, exercising, etc.
For me, one of the strange things I did was to drive for a couple hours to areas I hadn't been in a while and eat at out of the way diners & restaurants by myself. I still find time to find a diner, get a newspaper, and eat, drink coffee and chain smoke by myself!

Exactly! (which I try to avoid in my 2nd marriage - somewhat successful but not always possible). Do yourself a favor and let yourself be bummed/unhappy/miserable if you want - obviously, if you can avoid letting it effect your kids, that is good. But if you let yourself be bummed a bit before you start doing the things you want to do, you'll enjoy it more. Otherwise, you will waste all those forgotten experiences by having a black cloud over your head the first time you reenter those long awaited adventures.
