I hope some of y'all are happy, you made me buy Napoleon Dynamite this weekend. I'll give it to DH for his birthday next week.

I read in our local paper this weekend that Napoleon Dynamite was actually based on, and filmed in, a town about 150 miles from us. I guess I need to watch it!

Are you implying that there's something wrong with my avatar?

Thanks Dawnie. I do probably look a little young, I never thought about the ID thing. I was 19 when I got married so I think the "finding yourself" thing will probably happen. I know this will all work out and I appreciate everyone's words of encouragement. Thanks a bunch!

A meal ticket, that's what. The 50-year-old guy is more likely to have some $$$ in his wallet.

Good point. Don't know what the 50-year-olds are thinking. I'm 35 myself. Perhaps many 35-year-old women find us immature?? Haha!

Don't virtually ALL women like older men? I'm not just saying from my experience, but from what I've seen, women always go for older guys. I guess I just need to hurry up and get older!

Well, I wasn't talking about one or two years. With the exception of my ex-husband, all of the men I have ever been serious with, were at least 7-10 years old than me.

Not all women like older men. Almost all the guys I've gone out with have been younger than me by 2-4 years. (See post regarding college in town.) The older men do offer more stability, read money, but are few and far between here. And many of them are just icky!

As a 50 year old single (divorced) woman I can tell you that I have dated men a bit older than me (6 years) and a few years younger than me (2 years) and I know that what I really want is someone close to my own age who is going through many of the same issues in life that I am. I don't want someone with small children. I really don't even want someone with grandchildren. Kids in high school or college is fine. Common interests and common issues will come from someone in my same age group. Since I am 50, the older guys are all approaching retirement and I just can't see myself in a relationship with someone who either spends their day at the golf course or parked in a recliner watching TV all day!

I am only 26 years old and I'm married. But you know my mother is 55 years old and has been divorced for almost 20 years. She finally started dating a man almost 2 years ago. And now she is engaged to this man. He is a very nice man but I swear I'm holding her hand the whole way. She keeps freaking out and wondering if this is really what is best for her. I've told her that only she knows that but to remember that he isn't my dad and just because my dad was a jerk doesn't mean that her new man will be the same way. I'm sure it is really scary at that age to start dating again but I keep telling her is it because she really doesn't like him or is she scared to take a chance. I believe many people her age are scared to start over. Or else they are looking for the right person, with the right this and the right that. I told her many times that love and marriage are work and everything is not about lust or love. No one will ever be the perfect match for anyone. I believe you need to find someone you can build a friendship with first then love second because in the end the friendship will carry you longer then lust/love. Don't miss understand me, I believe love is very important but there are different kinds of love and I want her and myself to find the love that is base on friendship, respect, campionship, the the ability to understand that it takes two to make the marriage work not just one. I have several single friends who complain all the time that they can't find someone. I keep telling them that they are to picky. That they need to realize that they need to find someone that can put up with their downfalls and love them anyways.

For 26 you are VERY smart! Your Mom is lucky to have you as an advisor. Now do you want to adopt me too?

Further South than I wanna be.
I am just curious. What is this dating thing you guys are talking about. I don't have anything like that in my vocabulary, and never do it (I guess since I don't know what it is). From what I can tell, a person of the opposite sex is necessary to make it happen and it isn't alway pleasant. I think I will just stay away from it, don't need more stress in my life.

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
Dates are the little fruits that grow on palm trees! quite tasty! Perhaps one has to have a male and female palm tree in order to produce those little fruits

Sure, why not I'm full of love advice. But what really kills me is that she is the one who taught me these things but then can't apply them to her own life. Granted watching her go through a divorce and being a child of divorce also taught me many things.
