I got a note from a Single Shot reader the other day regarding my recent column about Craigslist. Apparently, she met a "really nice man" through the CL personals and they went out for nearly a month. After which, they broke up.

The reason?

A question for Dan Savage:

I've always endorsed the philosophy of 'leaving people better than you find them' when dating (i.e. maintaining a healthy friendship after ending a romantic/physical involvement). But I also have to wonder, if during the course of a relationship a partner becomes better than they were to begin with, then why leave them?

When you say "getting nowhere," that sounds as if you may have a agenda, which is bound to scare off any male who has a mote of intuition. Your map is drawn and you will follow it to the "X." IMO, forget an agenda and your previous expectations and approach your next date (person) with honesty-not what you imagine he wants to hear, but honesty. If you start with the totally-honest-You, more likely the dates that "call-back" want more of that honesty, whatever it is. Ps... Studies show that men think of sex approx every 90 seconds.. and women, every 2 minutes.
