My boss is sure that I can start a campaign to change Reg CC. He is especially upset about next day availability on Cashiers Checks. Does anyone have any suggests of what I might do to start?

OnTheEdge, it's been the law for 17 years; your boss missed the crescendo. The problem is not with the fact you cannot put a hold on the cashiers check, the problem is that you can't verify that it's real. If it is real, you don't need the hold.

Now you fellas know I can't talk to the boss that way! He really thinks I can do something about this whole situation. We had a staff meeting earlier this week. I was out at a seminar but another staff member told me that he announced that he had me working on a solution!

You can write to your senators and representatives and explain the fraud problems to them. It may not change the law but at least you've made the effort for your boss.

I wonder what reputational damage would result from the following news release: "XYZ Bank successfully delays availability of Cashier's Checks for every bank customer in the U.S. of A. Southeastern Banker [your boss] and his staff diligently worked day and night to get the Expedited Funds Availability Act amended so you can wait to have access to your funds. In a related story, the ACLU...

With the exception of Waldensmith's comments, I'm not going to have the nerve to share any of your comments with my boss! The comments about Dilbert got me laughing so loud my neighbor in the next office came in and wanted to know what I was reading. I shared it with her and she got a good laugh also.

I would like to echo Ken's point. The banks that interpreted privacy to mean that we can no longer verify the authenticity of a check need to rethink the process. Just call me back at the bank's published telephone number if you need to and let me know the check is good.

OTE - You're in luck! On Monday, tell your boss that you have been granted an EXCEPTION from the Next Day Schedule under Reg CC. This EXCEPTION is for any Cashier's Check that is more than $5,000, your bank can place a hold on the amount that EXCEEDS the $5,000 for either 7 or 11 days.

Tell your boss that you have already made plans on what to do with your bonus money for solving that little problem.
