So say, Sweden comes into the US and tells us to get rid of all our nuclear weapons. We tell them to go home and listen to their ABBA records. Does Sweden have the right to come over here and start shooting at people?
Sure they do. The difference is, they lose badly.
Unlike our rousing victory in Iraq.
I thought we kicked their military's butt. Guess I am thinking of the wrong Iraq.
No doubt. Our military whipped up on them so fast. But the media makes it look like we lost (even though we are in control of their country). I guess the media also claims the people do not want us their also. Talk to a soldier if you want to hear what the Iraqis want.
so much control that dozens of people die every single day from violence. violence that did not exist before the war. interesting.

Yeah, it was so much better when Saddam was in charge of the violence.

Very true. I also resent the "talk to soldier" comment the one poster made. I have talked to soldiers and they don't all toe the party line for Bush.

Yeah, it makes me all nostalgic for torture rooms and chemical weapons. Nice, tidy, and out of the public eye.

hello, a soldier who says iraqis want us there is not necessarily toeing the bush party line. there are probably those who think the iraqis don't want us there but won't say so because of their sense of duty. but there are those who have actually talked to iraqis who want us there. is that toeing the bush line?

there's more violence here than in iraq on any given day. does that mean we don't have control here either? should we pull out of east L.A.? how would you suggest we control the murderers in iraq?

Why do you feel the need to speak to me sarcastically? Do you realize how your posts come off to others? Isn't that what I'm supposed to say when someone is speaking to me rudely?

it wasn't sarcasm.

we must be lucky in central pa to be avoiding the car bomb attacks aimed at innocent civilians.

I'm not sensitive. I think any response that starts with the word "hello" implies a "wake up" message that I found to be rude. I was told I was to question those who I found rude instead of "going out of control." I was just doing what I was told.

not exactly the issue. the issue is why they are happening in the first place. moreover, at least for me, it is a reason to point out to people that they need to climb out of bush's rear and be critical. he has made some huge mistakes and public pressure to do a better job can go a long way. whether this is inducing the congress to take step or something else.

more people probably died of violence in pa last year than in all of iraq.

I've also heard soldiers say they (the soldiers) have no idea what we are doing over there and that the Iraqis want to be left alone to mourn their dead and start over on their own terms.

There have been 41 homicides here in Cincinnati already this year, and we are generally a quiet city. I can only imagine how many homicides have occured in LA, New York, Chicago, Detroit, and Washington DC.

Apples and oranges. I bet there would be a lot more homicides if your city were occupied like Iraq is.

If you found "hello" rude, I apologize. If you really did, you might want to avoid political or religious discussions on BOL. The talk can be tough.
Let's agree on some ground rules folks. Does everyone agree that no one needs to apologize for something as mild as saying "hello" in a political discussion?

I didn't ask for your apology. I expressed my feeling as a question instead of telling you I thought it was uncalled for.

we have 300 million people. how many does iraq have?
listen, my comment only to put the lie to this idea that we are "in control" in iraq. i am not one of these people that doesn't think this type of capitulation shouldn't and wouldn't happen. on the contrary, i AM one of the people that EXPECTED it to happen and was frustrated with the decisions made which appear to have been made by an administration that only wanted to hear a possible outcome that appealed to them. take it for what it is worth. my criticism of the administration is not blind hated for republicans.
