I have asked a lot of people musically inclined to explain to me what "pitchy" means. I think my hearing is gone because I can never pick up when someone is pitchy. That really has become an overused phrase.

I'm disappointed. Phil, Haley, Sanjaya, and even Lakisha should have gone before Gina.

There is good news though.... She's going on tour. She has her chance. She has fans. She'll get a record deal.

I am beginning to think that American Idol is keeping Sanjaya on for their ratings. I think its rigged!!

Gina was one of my favorites and I think I am going to refuse to watch from now on.

I found Gina's appearance distracting, but I am the AARP set so no surprise there. Didn't she have tatoos during auditions. Where those fake? I had trouble with the red in her hair too.

I first thought she had tatoos, but I'm pretty sure it was just a long sleeve shirt she had on.

For everyone that's upset (I liked Gina too), did you vote?

out of the frying pan...
I personally think Gina is better suited to RockStar anyway (depending on who the next band will be). She'd have ended up like Kelly Clarkson and HAVE to sing pop if she had won - and pop is sooooooo not her style. She was one of my favorites though, and I'm ticked that she got booted and caterpillar-eyebrows-bad-hair-boy is sticking around. Phil and Haley should also definitely have gone before her. I really think it will come down to Jordin and Melinda for the win. As awesome as Melinda is, I believe Jordin is more versatile.

I liked Gina. I agree with Becca, she may have been better suited for Rockstar, but she was definitely better than some of the others that stayed. DEFINITELY better than one in particular......PLEASE LET HIM (and his hair) GO HOME NEXT WEEK!!!!

I also agree that Gina should not have gone yet. But, I also must admit that last year I always felt bad when one of the top ten left, even Bucky, whereas this year, other than Melinda and Jordin, I am ambivalent. Even "He Who Must Not Be Named" doesn't bother me anymore. I find myself waiting to see how bad he is, much like rubbernecking an accident. I just think that the quality of performer is much lower this year.

I voted about 25 times. Apparently, it wasn't enough.

Uhmmm, I don't think she would have been forced to sing pop any more than Daughtry. As for pop not being her style, I think she's got the voice to sing ANYTHING she wants to.

The reason Daughtry didn't end up with some pop drivel is he didn't win... Therefor, he was free to do his album the way he wanted. Bo Bice wasn't so lucky, I still can't listen to his album...

Gina should not have gone this early. Dead Man Walking (Phil) and leggs (Hailey) needed to be gone first. I can't even talk about Sanjaya rationally, so I won't try. My favorite is Blake, and he better be there longer than Sanjaya!!!

Actually, Bo's album sounds a lot like what he did with his band prior to going on American Idol. Did you hear his stuff with Sugarmoney?

The reason they do so many different genres of music during the show is to help the people who will be producing and recording each of the artists find out what is best for that artist. It's not so they can just lump the winner into "pop". Carrie Underwood won. Is her album "pop"? Nope, it's country. Reueben and Fantasia won too. Are their albums "pop"? Nope, they are R&B.

Yeah, but a majority of the time, the albums are BAD... It's like the producers don't know what they are doing...

I never did hear Bo's other albums, but I did not like his "Idol" album. The same with Taylor Hicks, I have a copy in the car collecting dust cause it just seems so cookie cutter to me...

Maximus, Bo's Idol album sounded very much like his old stuff.

As for Taylor, I can't comment. I didn't particularly care for his voice. He's clearly a performer and not a singer.

But, if you look at it, American Idol has matured since the early winners. Look at Kelly's first album compared to her second. It got better. Look at recent contestants albums vs. the first couple of albums that came out. The producers are learning to take more time to put the albums out rather than rushing them out while "the iron is still hot". The fact is, people will wait for their favorites. Timing releases with the beginning of new seasons instead of rushing them out seems to be happening too.

Honestly, the real competition isn't up to America's votes. Once the contestants make the top 12, they have a shot at stardom. The auditions, Hollywood week, and initial performances to get to that top 12 are what are really going to give them the opportunity to become a star. After that, it's just more time to continue to build their fan base. But, they don't have to win the voting to win the prize of a contract and a career.

AND THAT IS A GOOD THING!
