Flat Out Best All-Around Movies

Have you ever had anyone ask you what is your favorite movie of all time - just movie, not comedy, etc.? It is always hard to decide, and I usually end up with 5 or so, but they always change - but I will start off by listing the 5 off the top of my head (and they are usually older movies that have passed the test of time where I could still watch them over & over): In no particular order:
The Sting French Connection The Great Escape Forrest Gump Close Encounters of the Third Kind

My all time favorite and I think I'm the only person in the world who has this as number 1 is Silverado. As Col. Potter once said on M*A*S*H it has the three things that make a movie great - Horses, Guns, & Horses. Plus it has a good dose of humor.
Others that I haven't seen mentioned here that I really enjoy:
The X-Men movies (My wife who is neither an action movie or comic book fan loves these.) Tombstone Scrooged

Toy Story and Toy Story 2 I find enjoyable time after time. For great movies...I love the classics--pre 1960s: Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, To Have and Have Not, You Can't Take it With You, Casablanca (of course), Dinner at Eight, To Be or Not to Be, The Big Sleep, North by Northwest (a personal fav) the Philadephia Story, The Thin Man, The Third Man, The Searchers, Mister Roberts, On the Waterfront, Best Years of Our Lives, Singing in the Rain (very funny--should be on my comedy list), To Kill A Mockingbird, All About Eve, Grapes of Wrath, Maltese Falcon, Treasure of Sierra Madre (Robert Blake's in that movie), It Happened One Night, .

Anything with Katherine Hepburn.
I prefer the older movies, when the actors made a story believable. Now they depend too much on the special effects.

It's the same with music. There was a time when artists were sought after due to their ability rather than their appearance.
