Change of Address - Every Account?

Answered by:

Question:
Is it necessary to get a change of address form for every account a sole owner has?
Answer:

Whether a bank requires a separate address change form for each account or accepts a single form will be a matter for the bank's policies and procedures in this area. As a practical matter, if the bank can correctly follow up on a single notice that enumerates all of the accounts to be affected, I believe that provides better, more convenient customer service. However, care needs to be taken, I think, not to assume that the customer can correctly list all of his/her accounts or that the bank should change an address on an account that is not specifically listed by the customer. In other words, I don't like forms that allow the customer to check off "all my accounts with you."
