HMDA Code for Race

Answered by:

Question:
For a loan to a hispanic, what code do we use as race?
Answer:

Ethnicity, which for the purposes of Government Monitoring Information and HMDA, is either Hispanic/Latino or Not Hispanic/Latino, is independent of Race.

In other words, an individual can check Hispanic ethnicity, and any of the Race choices (one or more).

Pre-2004, Hispanic was a choice under "Race." It is no longer. There are two separate fields: ethnicity and race.
