How Do I Handle Bill-Pay in the Branch?

Question:
We have recently become aware of growing bill-pay traffic in our branches-about double what we thought. Does it make sense to move this traffic to ATMs or kiosks? Does the technology support this? Are other banks experiencing the same thing?
Answer:

The growth of in-branch bill-pay seems to be a trend. We have heard this now from several banks, those that have looked at our transactional kiosks as a way to address it.

Is this a problem or an opportunity? We think by utilizing self-service technology, banks can get the transaction costs under control and use bill-pay to further brand the customer. You may also want to look at teller-assisted self-service for automating many other inbound and outbound teller transactions. In addition to bill-pay, self-service kiosks handle check cashing, deposits, money transfers, and printing of certified checks or money orders. Tellers are free to oversee these transactions and engage with customers for more upselling and cross-selling.
