You do not have to identify your exact bank name in a Web address but your site should clearly identify your bank. The advantage to registering multiple names protects your from customers typing the wrong address and getting a knockoff site. One example is whitehouse.gov, the Federal government's site, and whitehouse.com, which is far from representing the U.S. Whitehouse. It is an adult site often confused for the intended site. Also, registering a name such as "xyzbanksucks.com" makes it more difficult for a disgruntled person to establish a parody or defamatory site. While the possibilities for a name are many, you can do more than registering one name.First published on BankersOnline.com 2/5/01
