No Longer Offer Free Traveler's Checks-Notice?

Answered by:

Question:
We once offered free traveler's checks to certain account holders. We no longer do that, but it was listed on the TIS addendum given at account opening. Are we required to give notice of the removal of this product? We no longer offer these for purchase at the bank at all.
Answer:

Technically, no, because the disclosure wasn't required in the first place. Given the small number of customers who might even have an interest in purchasing traveler's checks (that fact likely entered into your decision not to offer them any longer), I think it's unreasonable to bother notifying all your customers of the fact you don't sell them any more. I'd just make sure that your staff has some suggestions for alternatives if one of your customers does ask for traveler's checks.
